Default Determining the Legitimacy of Philips HIDs

If I posted on the wrong section, please move it to the correct section pweez.

This thread is for those who are looking to picking up a Philips HID kit. There are hundreds of fake Philips ballasts and bulbs out in todays market. So how do you differentiate between the real and the fakes?

Simple. There are a few ways in determining the legitimacy of the Philips kit you are looking at.

1. Philips bulbs will be marked Philips Germany
2. Philips bulbs will have a red hue in the middle of the bulb
3. Philips bulbs will be labeled with a security label that can be tracked on www.philips.com
4. Philips HID Kits only use KET wiring connectors not amp
5. Philips ballasts will only have KET connectors

Therefore if the HID kit that is claiming to be authentic Philips has AMP connectors INSTEAD of KET, it is automatically ruled as a counterfeit Philips kit. ALL PHILIPS KITS HAVE KET CONNECTORS!

KET vs AMP Connectors:

Here is a picture of what KET connectors look like.

And here is what AMP connectors look like.

Another few things you can look for if a company is trying to pass a fake kit off as real one are:

1. Packaging looks the same but contents inside IE bulbs and ballasts are marked Philips Patent, Philips Patent bulbs are not made by philips and are not made in Germany.
2. Kit comes in two boxes like the original but the boxes are grey instead of white with the philips logo
3. Ballasts come in a odd shape or are slim ballasts.
4. Philips bulbs only come in 4300K and 6000K.

All Philips ballasts are standard size producing 35W. Anything otherwise will be a tall tale of fake ballasts. Philips has never produced a rebased bulb and has never sold burners to the rebasing market. Therefore any rebased bulbs claiming to have Philips burners are deemed fake. Here are what authentic Philips HID kit should look like.

Thanks for reading and good luck finding the right HID kit for your car!

Another point that I forgot to mention is there are some kits that use authentic Philips ballasts and wires but will contain a chinese manufactured bulb; usually a high quality bulb such as Morimoto bulbs. People compared these type of bulbs to the Philip bulbs themselves. Please take note that if that Philips kit is utilizing Morimoto bulbs, the bulb and ballasts will still use KET connectors and the seller will note that the HID kit is not a complete Philips kit and will sell for about $50 less than the 100% authentic Philips kit. But remember, most if not all fake Philips kits utilize AMP connectors instead of KET.
