Default Fuel filter replacement...

According to Scion.com "The fuel filter is typically not a scheduled maintenance item and only requires replacement if necessary. Please consult with your local Scion dealership for additional information concerning fuel filter maintenance. "

WTF does that mean? every other new car Ive owned says every 30K miles...

it might be that the fuel filter is INSIDE the fuel tank.. what a mess that would be to replace it.. hence "contact scion dealer".. translation? this is gonna cost ya! maybe others know where it really is..

yeah i figured it was in the gas tank.....But regardless off cost- they should atleat reccomend a replacent interval...

My Focus had one in the tank, and an inline filter that was replaced every 30K (cost about $100 w/ labor)

They generally last the life of the car and seldom ever give trouble. It's so funny how you make an item no-maintainance and people still _____. You could change it every week if it makes you happy.

fuel filter is not normaly replaced during serviceing only if you have a fuel pressure problem again unlikely on a toyota
i have worked on toyota/lexus for over 11 years and have yet only replaced 2 fuel filters i have not replaced any fuel filters on any of my personal toyotas/scion
besides its a f...ing pain in the butt on most models and the flare nut is so tight you may damage it we just dont do them
if a customer askes we just say it is not necc

Thank you kacosta for you CONTRUCTIVE comments.....What do you think about useing a fuel system cleaner/fuel injector cleaner every 6-12 months?

And how come toyota's do not need fuel filter replacement, and Alot of other cars require it every xxx, xxxx miles?

I don't know how they could be any more clear. It means under normal conditions the filter has enough capacity to never need replacing. If you pump sludge into your tank you will have to change it sooner.

Many times it is no longer considered a maintanence item but on the cars I have owned, it makes little to no difference changing it early as 30k miles.

probably frequently running the tank down to empty will shorten the life of the fuel filter. fill it up when it's at 1/4 .
