Default Hammering the gas during break-in period

Ah ____. I messed up my car. Ok, not really, but I'm still driving during the break-in period, and I already accidentally stomped on the gas and made the engine rise up 5k+ RPMs in a split second. I accidentally did that two times in one day within an hour. Damn....

I couldn't help it because I was about to drive through a yellow light and I couldn't decide to make a hard stop or just run it when it turns red, so at the last minute I stomped on the gas and made it past the intersection. And unfortunately, I did this twice and I only have like 370 miles on it. Have this happened to anyone?

What foreseeable damage have I caused to my engine? What I'm most worried about is getting poor gas mileage later on.

Don't worry about it. It's prolly better to rev your car up once in a while during the break in period then not to.

As long as it's not a habit u shouldn't have any problems.

I wouldn't sweat it. If you are so worried that you did this twice, you probably are not going to be doing it consistantly, which is what would likely actually damage your car in the long run. Just be nice to your car and try and keep that tach below 5k most of the time and your engine will be fine.

It's all good. Your engine won't fail any time soon.

Wow, you've reached a million miles? That has to be some sort of record.

i did that once, only on purpose i was passing this car and I hit the gas and to my surprise the car took itself all the way to 5.6K before shifting, i didn't care b/c it's not such a bad thing that the engine gets to experience upper end power during break in, not much but a tad bit...i was probably at 5600 for 15-20 seconds, then back to normal.

i actually heard its good to push your engine during break in to seat ur piston rings nicely (motoman theory hehe). thats controversial however it does make some sense. u should be safe. what i do is drive conservatively and every once in a while get the revs pretty high, kinda like mixing both break-in theories. i figured taking the middle road should be safe haha

I'm probably gonna drive it normal, and not baby it. That's what my buddies do when they build motors. And toyota engines, and most other engines, are run on an engine dyno at the factory for a period of time.

the motor is broke in at the factory. the high rpm's are fine as long as you keep it out of the redline.

Break in period for our motors = 10 miles.
The 1K break in period is for GM motors because they are built looser then the tC motors.

Breaking in means not to keep the engine at one RPM for a long time. So vary your speed.
