heat problems
my heat isn't working properly-when you turn the heat on, it doesn't get hot. i have to mess around with the control, raising and lowering it for a little while for it to get hot-this is after i've been driving the car for 20 minutes, and after warming up for like 5 minutes(remote starting it). i'm having some coolant issues as well right now-the coolant tank is basically empty. could that have an effect on this? when the car starts, the temp gauges is shooting all the way to the end of the red also, but after a couple of minutes, it goes back down.
just turned the car on right now for about 15 minutes, there's no heat coming out at all. doesn't matter if i have it on high, low, coming from the bottom, defrost, anything-no heat whatsoever. this car is just aggravating the crap out of me.

yes take it to the dealer. . . those are things that new cars shouldn't have problems with. And yes the coolant has much to do with the heat. If the resevior is empty that is one thing but if the radiator is empty too it can cause major engine damage as well as costly repairs and headaches.
The coolant take the heat from the engine and passes through a smaller radiator called the heater core that is where the heat is output through the heating and cooling system.
Long story short if the car is new it shouldn't be doing the things you say it's doing, the car needs to be going to the dealer asap as said in the reply before.

Fill your coolant to the proper level and then try the heater. Is there a specific reason that the coolant is low? These are closed systems and shouldn't be using much if any. Where did it go? Seen any leaks? Exhaust smell sickly sweet?
The heater draws heat from the coolant system fluid. But air won't do the same.

For your heater to blow cold you need to be dangerously low on coolant. If the temp gauge ever hits red you have a problem. I don't know how tC motors are, but some will blow head gaskets or even warp heads when overheated even for a short time. Be sure to fill the coolant befor you go, but take it in for service.

the temp thing pins against the end of the red by High for about a 1-3 minutes, and then goes back down to normal. the supercharger was installed about a week ago, and when i got home, i noticed that the coolant tank was empty. i had it checked out by my mechanic, and there was a leak. he filled up the tank and made sure the radiator was filled as well. i brought it back to toyota on tuesday just to have them flush the radiator and put in toyota coolant. once i left the dealership, i noticed the temp thing went all the way to the top. i shut the car off, and opened the hood-once again, the coolant tank was empty. after a couple minutes i turned the car back on. the temp gauge went back up to high, stayed for about 2 minutes, and then dropped back down. when i turned on the heat, there was only cold air coming out. today i went to the toyota dealership by my house to pick up toyota coolant. i filled up the tank just before, and i'm gonna fill up the radiator once the car cools down. could the service people really be that incompetent that they keep forgetting to refill coolant after the flush the system? both times after coming home from there, the coolant tank was empty. i would've gone back to toyota yesterday, but they were already closed. this is absolutely getting ridiculous. how can a service dept be this incompetent-they road tested the car also-shouldn't they have noticed that the temp gauge was pinned at high? friggin morons.
the car has 1100 something miles. 240 of those miles has been coming to and from the dealership-sc install and coolant problems. more than 20% of the miles on my car is because i've been going back and forth to them. that's just adding onto my frustration right now.

Sorry you're having problems like that. I really don't think they would be that stupid, but that is exactly how my Isuzu Rodeo acted last winter when I blew a head gasket which would have been about $1200 or $150 and a lot of time I didn't have to do it myself. Sometimes radiators are hard to get full. I don't remember seeing the radiator cap on a tC, but I usually try to fill the radiator with the car running and warmed up so it can pump the water all through the radiator.

the coolant i put into the tank was empty within the hour, so bascically, it went into the radiator. then i opened the radiator up and added coolant in there. i went through a half of a container of the stuff fill up the radiator. there's no leaks anywhere, otherwise i'd see coolant all over-either on the shield at the bottom, or on my driveway. i shined a spotlight on the engine and then jacked the car up, and crawled underneath with a flashlight-no coolant anywhere. the heat works again, the radiator is full, and the tank is now level and not dropping. these morons just forgot to fill up the coolant in the radiator.
