help guyz, odd noise when in gear =(
I have about 12k on my XB 2005 Manual Transmission. Something very odd has creeped up on me over the last few thousand miles, and not sure if its getting worse or what.
I just compared my box to my grandmas box who's was bought 1 month earlier than me. My transmission SUX ***** compared to hers, of course shes still only got under 5k miles on it...but her shifter is so much smoother. ALL of my gears are very notchy from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd and very sledom 3rd to 4th. From 1st to second its notchy but from 2nd to 3rd sometimes not only is it notchy but there is this hollow plasticy slap sound. Ive never heard a loud stick like this....Im not sure if thats normal on half the box's out there, I know my grandmas shifter aint that bad. I would like suggestions for that please...
ON ANOTHER note my main problem is, the creeping up thing over the last few thousand miles... When I Accelerate IN GEAR or decelerate IN GEAR, there is this sound that sounds like there is a decent amount of friction between 2 metal plates, a acoustical metallic sound...its very hard to describe it. Its pitch does not change with speed of car or RPM's or speed of tranny. It does not exist when car is out of gear and I rev it, or clutch is disengaged,, but car is in gear and I rev it....OR if Im going a constant speed in gear and clutch engaged. It only exists when I am in gear, clutch is engaged and Im accelerating or daccelerating. Its most noticeable when I downshift and say in 2nd the RPM's are at 4k and I just let the car deaccelerate foot off gas. Its REALLY noticealbe then.
THE loudness of this sound well, I have to have my radio(STOCK) on lvl 15-17 to not be able to notice it at all.
What could this be? transmission related or what, its drivetrain or something. Im hopeing that "notchyness" hasnt destroyed my gear box and is causing this.
Im not sure if its tranny tho, This sound gets louder as RPM's climb and quieter as RPM's are lower. It never changes in pitch. What could there be that causes a constant pitch but a difference in loudness???
please post any ideas or if anyone has experienced the same.
Thanks

There is a TSB that goes on about checking the clips that hold the shifter cables into the shifter cage on manual xA/xBs. This would be the first thing I would check before changing gear oil. This should be a warranty job unless you've done a shifter replacement yourself. Have the dealership check it out and refer to the TSB when you do so.

actually this noise only occurs after the tranny seems to be warmed up...when its cold this noise does not exist...any ideas? I will check out the tranny TSB tho...is there any working link atm on this forum for current TSB's cuz Ive been looking through all the threads and the links that have the TSB's seem to not exist anymore =(
