my last change was at 23k..
should i change it at 26k or just wait for the dealer date of their recommended check up.
which i believe is at 28k.

FYI: I break-in my cars with this schedule:
Cars: 1k miles, new oil/filter. 3k mils, new oil/filter. 5k miles, switch to synthetic (Mobil 1) and OEM Toyota filter. Every 3k miles after.

Goodness.
First, why was your last change at 23k? Was it because you were following your own schedule, or have you not changed the oil since 15k? Or 20k? If you are more than 5k away from your last change (the interval reccomended by the first place you should have looked: your manual), then change it sooner rather than later.
This question is like the "how do I break in my car" question. There are as many answers as there are drivers. Go with what your manual says.

Castrol Syntec 5w30 and WIX filter. 5K miles...unless the light tells me to change it earlier.
I DO feel the difference in the way the car runs after switching to synthetic, it'll "coast" farther...it spins easier.

well yeah the manual says ever 5k miles or every 6 months whichever comes first. then when i went to the dealership... they asked me at what interval would i change my oil... like they were giving me a choice?? i would prefer every 3k.. but i dunno... i dont have to pay for any of my oil changes for the first 3 years... so im wondering if i opt for the 3k mile change.. will they allow me less oil changes during my 3 yr maintenance program... because i choose to do it more frequently.

well... there are reasons why people (more companies, business) push and recommend 3k... it's so they make more money.. (granted your first 3 doesn't count)
it truly isn't necessary to change it that soon.. i personally change it at 4k, where it's a happy medium.
PLEASE read this: http://www.nordicgroup.us/oil.htm#Th...%20Mile%20Myth
and this: http://www.motoroilbible.com/pre-one.html
and for the person who said 2500... businesses really do love you... but seriously.. that's way too soon.

I can post links that say change it every 1000 miles and it means little.
There are tons of sites and lots of research that debates this topic to death.
No right or wrong answer - just use common sense.
3, 4, or 5 k OCIs will all ensure a healthy engine.
No sense in getting into that argument here. If car makers thought your warranty would go unused with 20k OCI's, then they'd put that in the manuals. They don't.

At least go to a Jiffy Lube type place and get it done.
They are normally done in under 30 mins - do it at lunch.
Or, get some tools and do it yourself on the weekends...not hard to do, just a little messy
