Default how often to wax?

how often do you guys wax?

i hear that you need to wax every month because waxing too much will ruin your paint. is this true?

I believe that depends on the wax. Some waxes, at least older ones, had abrasives in them. Waxing often would basically rub away your paint. With newer technology and clear coats I don't think that's a problem anymore. The only problem I've ever had with waxing often is figuring out new ways to say thanks for the compliments.

I've always waxed my car when my hand doesn't glide very easily on top of the paint. This may be too often, but I've never had a problem with the paint as a result. I just love that baby-butt feel.

In a completely legal way, of course.

you can find out how fresh you wax is by watching the way water beads off your car. A fresh wax will bead water real easily

I wax my car as often as possible. That is, with every wash I feel like waxing it. I don't think there's any way real carnuba wax can damage your paint, that is, wax that's actually wax, but if you're using something like a buffing wax, or a wax that removes stains (paint cleaner) you might want to avoid frequent application.

I'd get a 'pure' wax, and rotate it with your 'cleaner' wax.

wax when you don't see water beading on the surface anymore. this usually happens on the bottoms of the doors for some reason, maybe brake dust or something has to do with it.

i just waxed today. i only use meguiars products, plus klasse all in one. here's an old pic of my results. now if scions just didn't have so much orange peal in the paint. i wax every month. wash, claybar, klasse all in one, meg's NXT tech wax (2 coats), meg's deep crystal carnuba (3 coats), followed by plenty of meg's detailing spray.

here's my stuff i use. i could eat the tech wax and drink the detailing spray, they smell like pure sugary candy (if they wouldn't kill me), makes it so much more fun to use. the carnuba wax smells like bananas.

Depending on your climate and the type of wax you use I would recommend waxing every 30 days in most climate's, assuming a once per week wash schedule. Everytime you wash your car you are removing some of the wax. Basically when you see the water not beading up like it use to it's time to re-wax. I prefer to use sealants as they last longer and are more durable(but they leave a cold shine), although I do top my sealant with a carnauba wax topper for added depth and shine with life.
