Default I need some help

Hello everyone, this is my first post here and i hope i posted in the right place.

Sorry for the newbie questions but i tried a search and i cannot find anything relevant to my problem.

I have just bought a 2002 toyota ist which is a japan import (i live in europe). I belive that on your end its called and Xa, hence my post here.

I replaced the battery on the ist and suddenly the door locks do not lock all at once and the remote key stopped working! Now i have the owners manual but its in japanese! There seems to be a sequence to get the everything back to normal but i cannot figure out how.

I sorted the electric windows out but i cannot get the central locking to work as it used to, especially the remote key! The key has only one button. I tried the reprogramming sequences found here and none work as i have a 1 button key, and i doubt my model has an alarm!

Does anybody have any idea how to make the locks works as they used to??

Thanks in advance
Patrick

Try resetting your ECU.

I know he doesn't have a cel. but resetting the scu actually might help, since all it does is reset the car.

it does not reset the car...it resets the ECU (engine control unit)
notice how when you do the ECU reset the clock and radio station presets are still fine...this does not reset the car.

the security or keyless entry systems are not part of the ECU.....

Hi, thanks for the replies

Ok to keep all happy i will try both suggestions and see what happens.

Oh by the way, CEL = check engine light?? as i got a bit confused. Is it an indicater in the shape of an engine?? orange?? as it does have one.

Yesterday i made another attempt at trying to figure out whats happening. So basically if i lock all the doors with the interior switch and use the remote key, it pops all the doors open and nothing flashes or beeps. I tried again and the same happened, the remote only opens the doors! You can hear a relay and door actuators click when you press the button but it always opens the doors, never locks them

Originally it used to flash the indicators once for lock and twice for unlock, or vice versa! It also had a feature that if you walk away and forget to lock it it locks it self when the key is not in the ignition.

Tonight i will give it another try, if all else fails then its either going to the toyota dealer who probably does not even know whats what as this model was never imported in my country. Try to find a japanese guy who might be able to translate the manual, or just live with it.

I will update you as soon as i try every thing

Thanks

Patrick

yes, CEL is that motor shaped light on the dash. (number one reson for this light coming on it not putting the gas cap on tight enough...)

did your battery (in the car) die recently??? or did you try to give someone a jump???
if done wrong can cause some bug like this....

either way, i think the door lock controller is bad.

let us know what happens.

Find a dealer or someone to read the manual. sounds like you just need the doors to be reprogrammed.
