Default Irregular dipstick reading need advice

Ok you guys this actually has to do with my Tacoma.

When I check the oil one side of the dipstick looks WAY high, but the other side is just at the right level. Why am I getting 2 different readings on my dipstick and which one should I follow?

And yes the vehicle is parked on level ground etc etc.

Thanks everyone.

sounds like the dip stick is going at an angle to the oil pan go with the side thats is at the correct fluid level

my moms truck does that too... S10. But her oil fill and dipstick are in the same hole. so oil running down the tube sticks to the sidewall of the tube. Possibly the same in your case. even if the fill and dipstick are in different places, driving can cause the oil to move around and stick to things.

Just a possibilty

So you think I should read the lower side? I just didn't want to end up blowing something up because the level was too high.

Check your oil after it sits overnight. That will give all the oil a chance to drain off the dipstick tube.

that's great advice. do the oil change, check the levels on the stick, and us that as your future baseline.
