The light is still on b/c who ever changed your oil didn't reset the light. The instructions should be in your owner's manual or you can search here for "reset maint light" or something. There have been enough threads about it so you should find something...

I'm not an expert but the Manual also states how to reset it... The car doesn't know when the oil's been changed. You have to tell it that the oil's been changed. You have to Manually reset it. Check the Manual again, it will tell you how.

Yeah, off the top of my head, you turn the car on, make sure the big lcd under the speedometer is reading ODO, turn the car off, press and hold the ODO button, while holding it turn the key to on, let all of the dashes disappear and that should be it, then you can let go of the button and turn the car on and no light.

Edit: Or thats the self destruct sequence...don't say I didn't warn you

maybe something else is wrong with your engine...
why did you wait 7 months to change your oil anyway? that seems like a very long time for not changing your oil

Maint Req Light is ONLY a reminder for the scheduled maintenance/oil changes. If something was wrong with the engine, he'd get the CEL.

As for 7 mo, ya, it does seem like a while, but maybe he just doesn't drive that much?? Let's hope it's that and not that he just didn't know... (owner's manual anyone?).

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he doesn't drive much and did change the oil when the light came on. And it just stayed on. Still whether or not he drives alot..the max your suppose to go is 6mos b/c the oil will still break down from short trips from the heating up /cooling down cycle.
