im guessing you just hit 5k miles? just reset it, there's no way the car can tell how new your oil is, the tech is supposed to reset it so obviously he didn't do that when he changed your oil.

actually it really has to do only with your mileage.

used only as a reminder to change your oil... nothing really directly related other than that.

Maintenance light RESET:

Page. 96 of Scion tC 2006 Owners Manual

1. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position with the odometer reading shown.
2. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position while holding down the trip meter reset ****.

Hold down the **** for at least 5 sec. the odometer inidicates "000000" and the light goes off.

It only seems hard the first time you have to do it. I wonder if that feature could be unhooked. I'm tired of having to keep resetting it every 3K or so. Especially seeing how I go 5K between oil changes.

You can change it so the light will come on every 5k miles instead of 3k.

I'm prolly gonna just cover that symbol with some black electrical tape next time I have that section apart.
I keep a maint. record for each vehicle so I don't need reminders.

Thanks for the info anyways so go and post it up how to change fron 3K to 5K anyways.

Everything you need is in the very first posts (near the bottom): https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=20749

After you've driven your Scion for a few thousand miles, you will see a "maintenance required" orange light flash for a few seconds in the center display console every time you start your car. Do not be alarmed. this is just a reminder to have your oil changed. If you change your own oil, you can reset the light. here is how:
1. Turn on the ignition and make sure it is on your odometer display, not the trip display.
2. Turn off your ignition. Hold down the trip meter reset button and turn the ignition on. Keep the button pushed in.
3. The maintenance required light will flash for a few seconds. when it turns off, let go of the reset button.

The the display will change for 1 second and go back to the mileage. That's it.

In case you didn't know and would like to use this function, when you hold the odometer reset **** and turn on the ignition, 5 bars in the odometer display flash and then sequentially go out. Each of these bars represents 1k miles. If you want to set the light to come on in 3k miles, let go of the reset **** with 2 bars remaining. 4k with 1 bar remaining and so on. Each bar that goes out will be 1k miles before the light comes on.
