Meguiars Wheel Cleaner Messed Up My Rims
Like the title says, Its my boxes birthday today so I decided to give her a bath and detail her.
I sprayed the Meguiars All Wheel Cleaner on my XXR 501 wheels, did it one side at a time, let it sit for about 20 seconds or so, sprayed them off with water and did the same to the other side.
When i got down there with the microfiber towel to detail them i noticed that the clear coat was starting to chip/flake off. Now i am missing a lot of the clear on the lip of my rims, it looks like crap and it even started turning the lip brown in a few spots.
has anyone ran into this type of problem with using Meguiars products before. needless to say i am quite ticked off at the moment because this is not the first bottle of this product i have used on these rims, but for some reason it messed my rims up. I was thinking it might be a bad batch and wasnt caught in time.
this is what i used.

Aren't most of those spray on rim cleaners acidic? They're not made for painted rims, because if they get in on a scratch in the paint (or clearcoat) they'll cause it to flake. I'm guessing on your earlier uses there wasn't scratches on the rims, but now from road debris there are some and it got in. Great on chrome though since it actually etches and eats any corrosion on bare metal, leaving the pure metal behind.
I use simple green, it's mildly basic, non-toxic and eats grease, just spray on, wipe with a wet microfiber, and wash off. Follow up with wax on any clearcoat.

Anyone try wheelwax? it's supposed to be used after washing the wheels though. I've been using the Meguiars NXT synthetic wax on mine with good results.
