Default Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for wheels?

Has anyone tried using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to clean their wheels/rims?

It does an amazing job cleaning the stainless steel sink in our kitchen and I thought it might work well as a wheel cleaner.

However, before I give it a shot I thought I'd check to see if anyone has already tried it.

It works very well, especially on the inside of the wheel. Neothin can vouch for it.

I'm not sure about using it on the painted part on the outside... but it should work great on the backside/inside.

Then make sure you put a sealant on your freshly cleaned wheels to greatly ease cleaning in the future.

Well, I've used the Magic Eraser before, but not for the tC.

Even though the Magic Eraser is soft, remember that it is abrasive. (I've used it on a glossy painted surface on some door molding, and now that part is not glossy anymore.)

I guess you could use it on the backside/inside of your rims like paul suggests, but I've never met anything on my rims that soap and a sponge/mitt or clay wouldn't remove.

Good luck with your rims :D.

You do realize... there is a Mr. Clean eraser specifically for wheels? It's available everywhere.

Actually, no, I didn't even know that product existed. I just know about the regular Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Cool.

Oh, and Paul34, what type(s) of sealant should I use on my wheels after they are clean? I assume I shouldn't use the same type of sealant glaze I use on my car's paint.

Hmm... well, what kind of sealant do you use on the paint? Basically, you can use any type of sealant.

The reason I say sealant is because if you just use a regular mostly-carnauba type wax, it'll probably melt off due to the high temperatures wheels experience. A quality sealant doesn't suffer from that problem.

Me... although it's more a sealant "booster", I use Duragloss Aquawax on the wheels. I'm actually going to try DP Spray Sealant today since its sunny out for once. (DP is a house brand at www.autogeek.net ).

BTW, I believe the Magic Eraser for wheels is the same thing as the Magic Eraser Duo... just a fancier packaging to try to get people to think they're buying a different product when its really no different than the regular Eraser.

Magic Eraser is great for steel/alloy wheels. I should know, because I work for the company that makes Mr. Clean, and specifically on the Mr. Clean business!

DO NOT use Eraser on your painted surfaces (fenders, hood, etc), however, because it likely will scratch.

The Magic Eraser wheel cleaner is slightly different than the Eraser Duo; it's more heavy-duty (a more dense foam) than the Original or Duo versions. If you can't find the Wheel version, I use the Magic Eraser Extra Power.

So which is it??? If it will scratch painted surfaces it WILL scratch wheels! NEVER use anthing abrasive on wheels!!!!
To remove junk (tar, grease, brake dust) use something mild like WD40 with a soft cloth. Then follow up with some wax. Dirt doesn't stick well to waxed wheels so they are easier to maintain.
