Default Oil filters (different heights WTF?)

I just did my first oil change (because no one will do it with Mobil 1 or Royal Purple...don't want Valvoline or Pennzoil in my car.) The filter that came off said "Toyota" on it (this was from the factory) and I put a Fram (the more expensive one) on.

The Fram was a good inch (or more) shorter than the Toyota...anybody else notice this? Wonder why they'd be smaller?

thats cause its a fram!

FRAM is absolutely one of the crappiest filters u can buy.

Its a proven fact they skimp on parts and use less filtering media.

I would def recommend using a factory filter or going with purolator or mobil. FRAM used to be good until they were bought out and went cheap.

Most the filters you can buy will be a lot shorter. For some reason the factory model is longer than the size speced for our car. Do a search in the maintainence section and youll see a lot more about it.

fram sucks, and as far as k&n, well i can't think of anything that would justify a $15 oil filter. the k&n probably has the same exact crap on the inside as a purolator.

Purolator Pure One...great filter. You can get them at Pep Boys for around $6.

I spoke with the parts guy at the local dealer, and he said Toyota uses two filters for the 4 cylinder models. Either will fit, but since there is room for the longer one on the xB, that is the one they go with.

The longer one is Part# 90915-YZZF1. I'm not sure about the shorter one.

To echo what ILLCRXSI said, FRAM is awful. Go replace it now.

Fram? That thing is all paper inside! you would have been better off spining the old one back on.

fram USED to be good, but that was like 10 years ago.. since then they've turned to crap.. if you want your engine to work, STAY AWAY from fram...

yeah toyota's filters are pretty good, when you see the "competition" sheesh..

Please, cpa5oh, use the Toyota filters (or at least another top-end filter, but Toyota are actually BETTER than most other top end filters). Stay away from Fram.

Your tC will thank you.

Fram now makes some of the worst 'national brand' filters available.

There are race engine prep folks that use Toyota filters for race applications on non-Toyota engines because they are so good. (Some even modify the mountings to take Toyota filters...)
