question about the three free oil changes?
Hey everyone, i was just wondering about the free oil changes. I just got my 5000 mile service stuff done at the dealership and they changed the oil and rotated the tires. they charged me 7 for parts,7 for oil, and 14 for labor. i asked them if i could use the free oil change and get them to take off the charge for the oil and get a cheaper price for labor. i know i still have to pay for the tire rotation. they wouldnt take anything off and said that i cant use the oil change coupon since they are not just doing oil but doing the whole 5000 mile service. what yall think?

nope, they screwed you over. i went in and had both the oil change and the tire rotation done and it cost me ten bucks. it doesn't say anywhere that the oil changes have to be done alone, just that you get three free. call up scion and complain.

Its in the back of yo8ur service manual. Every scion dealership gives you the first three oil changes free with the purchase of a scion. Check it out. They are supposed to give you any free oil changes. Call the manager and complain ALOT! Thats bs, they ripped you off!

My dealer offered a plan (it 's actually a Toyota plan) that allowed for oil changes and maintenance up to 55,000 miles. I forget what I paid, but I don't have to worry about paying for it in the future and can use it even if I move. Heck, it even came with road side assistance. Every 5,000 I get an oil change and a tire rotation.

Here's another question. How do you get just the oil and filters they would use to do the 3 free oilchanges??? I do my own and use Mobil 1 so I could use the 3 filters and use the case of oil in my other vehicles. Anyone have any suggestions???

I had the same issue yesterday. So I ended up paying So today I chatted with a scion rep and he told me that as long as you have your first 3 oil changes done within 3 yrs or 36,000 miles you should not have to pay for the oil/filter and labor. And this goes for any dealership in the country, even if you didn't buy the car from the dealership you took your car to be serviced. So I advise you to get on the phone and claim your rights! This is what I'm doing right now!

The problem is that you didn't agree to an oil change, but to the 5,000 mile service. A classic ploy by the stealership that includes important things like checking little nothing crap that the tech should just look at while the oil is draining. I would complain to the Scion hotline and also take it up with the service manager. If the service manager is stubborn, ask to talk to the general manager. Be sure to remind them about how people are always asking questions about your ride and how it would be quite easy (and therapeutic) to relay the story of the poor service you got from their dealership and suggest looking elsewhere. Those little reminders can go a long way...

yeah, I dont agree with the "5k mile service"
the delership in my area pays some kid (literally like 16) to change my oil. I am ok with that because thier is little knowlede needed to change oil- I just rather pay someone to do that than do it myself.
BUT
My dealer wants to change me $29.95 to have the same kid "inspect" a bunch of stuff (like brakes, exhaust, ect)
I would not mind if the dealer had a certified toyota tech look over my car. But some untrained ( through toyota school) kid-I dont think so!!
so yeah, I just have them change my oil every 2,500 K, and do the "inspections" myself.....
