This is the ONLY unit with all the functionality. I've looked and found only one that even got close:

http://www.brockwayengineering.com/r920.html

and it appears to be nowhere near as good or versatile (but does have a couple of neat features).

(And to that other question about the location of the OBD2 connector: Lower left of dash.)

Is the power for that unit drawn from the OBDII port itself? Or does it hardwirer and/or use a DC-cigarette lighter port?

I checked out the functionality of the unit and it has MANY things. ......but....... How many of them are you really going to use? I dont think I know enough about the car to be able to use atleast 1/3 of the options. What does everbody else think? I guess at less then $200 ...if you are able to use 1/2 of the options it will pay for itself.

if you check out the more features link on the website it says it can be a turbo timer as well. i don't need that feature but it's a really cool added bonus...i think i might pick one of these up after i get my springs. pretty spiffy.

Yeah... it's heavy on the "TOY" factor... which probably makes it fall more into the FUN catagory than the USEFULL.

This notation from their website will make it even more FUN/USEFULL!
ScanGauge II to USB Interface available in August 2006. Allows data logging, field upgrades, data downloads and more.

If only they would make something like this that you can set your limits with (and have it do boost etc etc) so you can have it monitor things and if the results of your cars condition are not within your limits - display an error reading.

Justin, the unit from Brockway might have at least some of those capabilities, it seems. http://www.brockwayengineering.com/r920.html

they are nice. Im interested for the future. I know that I will need to get a boost gauge, oil temp, water temp, and a few others ( ........in the future). My goal is to have less actual gauges and something like this that will maybe take their place. My ideal setup would have a unit like this and a boost/vac gauge.

You might take a look at the Defi Link Meter Display. I had one in my GTi. You get oil temp/pressure, water/temp, Fuel pressure, EGT, speed, and rpm. They also offer a boost guage which goes into the headunit. I have some stuff I'm not using anymore, pm me for a better explanation of how it works.

I've still got the boost gauge and display, along w/the computer to run them. Also some brand new sensors. If you're interested, pm me. Could save you a few hundred off of the total needed package.

I actually bought the scangauge and thought it was a POS. Just my opinion because I
didn't like how slow it updated... it was like once per second. How useful is that? Then I
saw an R920 that someone had at a local meet. It updated way faster... like 4 times per
second, according to their website. It also displays both intantaneous and average fuel
economy, so you can see how your foot effects your mileage in real-time. Much more
usable, plus you can get an acceleration timer with it. I plan on getting one as soon as
I dump the scangauge.

You add some features and lose some features with the Brockway units. It is, as always, a trade off and depends on which features are most important to you.

Heheheheheheh... I'll let you play with it for awhile, but if you could maybe snap a pic or two of the unit stuffed into a cubby in your box, or even just sitting on the dash next to the speedo to give us an idea of relative size, I'd appreciate it. :D

What are your first impressions?
