Scion xB xRamp
If you know anyone who is confined to a wheelchair
and needs a handicapped accessable vehicle check this out...
Scion xB xRamp
The biggest surprise at NMEDA this year was IMS's xRamp concept vehicle,
built on the Toyota-built Scion xB chassis. The xRamp features a rear-entry ramp,
a surprisingly roomy interior and a "cool factor" never before seen in a mobility vehicle.
With a relatively modest 49-1/2 inches of clearance in the entry, and 48-1/2 inches
of clearance in the rear seating position, the xRamp will not be ideal for everyone.
For those who can use it, however, it has much to offer.
With an integrated one-touch rear door, ramp, and kneel system, it's a
wheelchair-friendly vehicle that's easy to drive and park, and is also economical
at the gas pump (with an estimated 30 mpg city/36 mpg highway). The conversion
uses the OEM fuel tank and powered back door -- and even has the original
spare tire in its original location. Like the Sienna Rampvan RE, the xRamp
features "stealth mobility," appearing exactly like its unconverted counterpart
when closed. It's a mobility vehicle that doesn't look like a mobility vehicle.
Best of all, with an estimated chassis cost of $14,500 and a target conversion
cost of about $10,000, the Scion xB xRamp is a sub-$25,000 mobility vehicle.
More details about pricing and availability for the Scion xB xRamp will be announced
in the future.

the bB version still requires an additional person to load the wheelchair in the back once the driver gets into the seat tho. I really like that IMS version, seems a lil bit better suited for a solo driver.

That is good to see for the quads or others with serious upper extremety limititations. However, any paraplegic that gets an xB with that mod should be pimp slapped. A person with upper body use does not REQUIRE anyone else to put their chair in a vehicle.
BTW, Toyota/Scion will reimburse up to $1000 for adaptive equip. =D

Not sure if this has been linked before, but there is another company doing this. I myself did not care for the air ride kneeling suspension. I picked up my box from Freedom Motors last week, it has a manual lift ramp and tailgate with a fixed suspension. It's working great so far hauling a motorized midwheel drive chair, with my wife in it no less. She's 5'10", so the clearance of the other one just wasn't going to cut it. This manual version has 55" of clearance, so there's enough headroom. BTW, I priced the IMS version, it came to 32k at the authorized dealer in Maryland. The FMI version comes in at just over 26k, tax tags and delivery.
For those interested, the site is http://www.fminow.com
They also make a pretty nice looking PT cruiser mod with a gullwing rear door for those who are disabled but still enjoy driving.

Accessible xB
I didn't know that Freedom Motors made an accessible xB. When I checked their site in April, they only had the PT Cruiser and Element conversions. It looks nice and I am very interested in seeing it up close.
I own one with the Braun Rampvan conversion and love it (now). My wife is also tall (6') and uses a mid wheel drive power chair in which she sits very high. (56") She can, and prefers, to transfer to the front seat while I load the chair in the back. If she does sit in the back, she just leans her seat back and can sit rather comfortably despite the lower clearance. It's a bit noisy when starting and kneeling but I don't mind that. I was also able to haggle down the price a bit and get a lot of extras because I bought mine from a regular car dealership that sells mobility vehicles rather than a mobility dealership.
I had problems with the air suspension. It took 6 months and finally having them to replace the entire vehicle in order to get things corrected. I bought a 2005 in May and the air kneeling failed 5 times because of sub-standard hoses used in production. I had Braun replace it with a 2006 with steel braided hoses and a completely redesigned kneeling system and haven't had a problem since.
