Follow the owners manual for break in....dont gun it, smooth accel, etc.
Dump that oil and filter after 1000miles.*
Youre good to go.
*- I put some used oil from the filter into some containers and spun them in a centrifuge to see just how much "gunk" was in there. A picture is worth a tousand words.
From here on out, Iwill be doing oil changes every 3K or less. Cheap insurance IMO.

the owners manual says 1000 miles, which isnt a bad idea.
However, i broke my engine in the following way
First 200 miles i was driving the car on egg shells... nice and slow, giving it plenty of time to warm up
The next 500 or so miles, i red lined the car a few times, not going WOT, but letting the RPM's get up there.
I did this to let the valve rings fully break in, while this may be controversial, my engine is much more responsive, and hasnt given me any problems yet. After the first 1000 miles i am still driving the car normally and hasnt given me any problems since.
But the engine is a toyota engine...
Drive it like its a racecar...HAHA

this is what i followed. just substitute increase by 500 rpms near end tho, cuz they are generally referring to a honda's high rpm range with their figures.

Another factor just as important for those with 5 speeds, breaking in the clutch is overly important if you want it to last. I know this isnt the main idea of hte thread but it should be noted for reference purposes. You shouldnt drive all freeway miles with a new clutch either. You will want to do at least 50 miles of city driving, stop and go. Always try to use smooth engagement with the clutch pedal. As long as you dont do 0-120mph pulls the first few days I honestly think these motors will take anything you throw at them. But you should DEFINITELY change the oil after at least 1500 miles.
