Summer's here... beware of TAR!
If it gets really hot where you live, watch out for tar in parking lots. I learned this the hard way recently when I got back from a business trip and went to pick up my 1-month old xB2 from long-term parking.
It had been 90 degrees for a couple of days and when I stepped out of the shuttle I stepped right into a hot liquidy mixture of tar and asphalt. I kind of scraped my shoes as best as I could, but by the time I got home from the airport, my OEM floor mat carpeting had all kinds of sticky tar stains on it.
Thought it was ruined and that I'd have to buy a new set, but I think I pretty well rescued it.
Pulled off most of the asphalt pebbles by hand, then treated the stains with GOO GONE, applying with a paper towel and rubbing (don't apply the GG directly to the carpeting, as it can soak in and possibly dissolve the adhesive that holds the carpeting to the backing).
Followed this with a healthy dose of Spray N Wash, more rubbing, and then finally some Tide liquid laundry detergent, a bit more rubbing and then rinsy rinsy rinse.
It's almost dry now and looks like new.
