Have you tried, or are you using synthetic oils?

In cold weather, they have superior cold-flow properties and will turn over engines much easier in cold weather. I am using 0W20 Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic, and my car turned over in no time at negative temps with wind-chills below -30*F.

Not saying that IS the issue, but could be something to look into!

What exactly does it do? does it crank a long time b4 firing? or does it crank slow and die a horrible death?

I would say thats absolutly normal, next time try turning your key to the on position then pause before you turn the key to the start position, could be just the fuel pressure just isnt high enough at the rail yet, i would say dont even worry about it
