TSB AC007-04, Major A/C Upgrade
I'd like to start a new thread just for comments from people who have actually had the big A/C TSD performed on their xBs. I'm seriously considering getting it done in the Spring, before the next A/C season, but I'd like to hear about actual experiences with getting it done at Scion dealers.

I downloaded the TSB from the internet for the xA. The TSB is 28 pages long. For the 2005 xA the TSB amounts to a replacement of the compressor and a replacement of the thermistor at the evaporator. For the 2004 xA the compressor and thermistor are replaced and many changes are made to the linkage and dampers.
I got my new xA Monday and the installed the replacement compressor and thermistor before delivery as I had requested. I took a copy of the TSB to them when it first came out and before they had received it through their sources.

For xB I know a new condenser and compressor are added to some and in addition a new max max cool switch and something is being done with the air box. Only certain vehicles get both mods based on production VIN. Takes about 5 hrs to do both.

I have had the work done on my box. For me it did help make the AC cooler than it originally was but I have had another owner sit inside and he said he could not feel much of a difference to his. If you are up for it then have them do the work.
The Max AC is not a separate switch. From what I can tell the AC goes into Max AC mode when you put it on the coldest setting.
The only thing bothering me right now is a slight whistling annoyance from the engine compartment that happens at low RPM's which is soming from the passenger side of the engine bay. It might be one of the parts breaking in but I think the sound is either coming through the firewall slightly or through the air vents. With the rain and my work schedule I have not had time to look into it or take it back to the dealer to have the sound listened to. Could be comlpetely unrelated.

read what I wrote again.....
I had this work done a week after the TSB was out. If you are worried about having them do the work and rip the front end off to do it then take it in and have them try the other AC TSB which is just a adjustment first. If that does not make it cold enough then take your chances.
