Default Use CAUTION when buffing your car (56K....maybe)

Has anyone else on this site experienced this problem? I washed my car tonight and decided to add a coat of Meguiars NXT liquid wax to the body using an orbiter. Everything was working perfectly fine until I reached the driver side of the rear bumper. I lightly started buffing the area when this happened. From the looks and texture of the damaged area the paint just...melted.

I know the paint on the Scions is thin and very easy to damage, but this is ridiculous. Anyone know how I should get this fixed? Contact the dealer I purchased it from, or Scion? Or just pay out of pocket to get it fixed?

My car is not even 3 months old yet!

Yeah I have used it before. I buff my car...or I used to, my sisters VW Jetta, my parents 2 MINI Coopers and my relatives Jeep Grand Cherokee and their Mercedes. Out of all those cars this one is the first that I have ever had this problem. I cannot believe this happened, talk about thin paint.

that's insane ... never thought you can burn the paint w/ an orbital. I'm sure it's something else ... possibly edge of the pad (non-foam part) got rubbed or it was already there and you didn't notice it ??

Wow! That really sux, dude. I just waxed my car using a buffer last week and I had no probs. I don't know what to tell ya...maybe some touch-up paint if you don't want to spend a lot of $.

I am surprised as all of you. I never thought that this would happen by using a orbiter. That blemish wasn't there before (I washed my car the day prior to the OC meet). I was with a couple of friends detailing our cars when this happened and they're as surprised as I am.

A nice bumper sticker will patch that puppy right up.

I'll see if I can find those bullet decals that people put on their cars.

i would think that the paint job on your Tc was defective... i would bring it back to the dealer and demand a whole new bumper... i wax/buff my car almost twice a month with an orbital, and if that happened to me i would be raging/crying/depressed all at the same time...

that's not what a burn mark would look like. Burned paint turns a dark brow/black color and loses its luster.
a defect like that makes me think something on the machine hit the paint. i mean, i use a porter cable orbital and a hitachi rotary on my scion's paint almost weekly and i've never had any issues with using them, especially something like that.
