Default Water Spots after Wax

On sunday I put a coat of wax on my car and yesterday I sprnkled some water on the door to see how well it beaded up. Today when I went to my car I noticed that the door I sprinkled water on had water spots on it... What did I do wrong and what can I do to get the water spots off without removing the wax?

If you didn't wipe the water off, it will spot. Use some spray detailer, or rewash and dry the door.

So everytime it rains I have to wipe down the entire car??? I know your not supposed to get the car wet right after waxing, but i waited 24 hours before putting water on it.

I use paste wax and water drops do not cause spots in it. I think some weak liquid waxes may be spotted by the lens effect of the drops. To get the spots off, just spray the paint with one those light spray waxes or detail sprays, and wipe it down.

To get wax off, you would use detergent soat or alcohol, but no need to do that!

most of the time if you get water on the car it will spot. that is what water does. if you get rained on, wait until you can wash the car because you might scratch the clear coat if there is dirt on the surface.

Which one? I use Turtle paste wax on three cars, two silver and one white, and they don't water-spot if clean. If the cars are dirty and the rain does not wash the upper surfaces clean, the dirty water will dry with water spots.

Maybe the rain is not hard enough to wash dust off the hood and top, so the dust goes to the edges of the beads of water, and dries there. Dust that lies on a dry car can be dusted or wiped off. Dust that is wetted and dried forms a waterspot that is bonded to the wax and cannot be dusted or dry-wiped off.

Same with the sides of the car. Dust can be dusted off, but once the car has been driven on a rainy road, the resulting dirt spotting must be washed off.

I dust our waxed cars every day with either a Duster or a Kozak cloth, and maybe that is why I don't see dirty waterspots on the tops after driving in rain, only on the sides.

I'm going to go to Advanced Auto Parts on Saturday and get Some Eagle One Nano Wax and Eagle one Detailer spray. The detail spray should get them off...

You are more likely to get white water spots with tap water, because it has minerals in it. Rain water doesn't, or at least doesn't have nearly as much.

This time i didnt spray it with the hose or anything , just a little bit of rain. It was nothing 10 mins and some detail spray didnt fix up but is this supposed to happen? What am I doing wrong that leaves water spots on my car after it rains.

Here's the deal:

You did not say what you used to spray on the waxed car. I am assuming it is from a tap. If so, there are lots of additives in tap water, like fluoride. There are lots more, but they escape me ATM. Rain water does not contain these minerals and such, or at least not so much of them. All water which dries on your car leaves all the stuff in it which is not water behind. Tap water has more crap in it, so more water spots.

I washed the car with the hose, so tap water ofcource, but after I was done with that I dryed it with Microfibers and no water makrs were left. Yesterday it rained a little and THAT left water marks, not the tap water...

BTW, happy b-day Max!

Maybe you are dealing with Acid rain. Get a clay bar if you have not already. You can at least use it on the hood where the spots are the most noticeable.

No, can't be acid rain, I live in a really suburban area.acually for some reason the hood didn't have water spots on it, only the back side of the car had spots on it. The rest only had a little dust on it...

Guys,

Even if you wax your car, it it rains or if you get water from a sprinkler or something it is going to spot. Wax does not prevent water spots. Wax does protect the surface so you are alot less likely to have any water spots damage your paint. The wax provides some protection against the sun as well as protection against bugs and stuff. It also makes water bead off alot easier which means water won't stand on the surface as much, which would reduce water spots.

However, if water dries on your car, it is going to spot, whether you have it waxed or not. I think you believe wax does more for your car than it really does. I doubt you are doing anything wrong.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, thanks for the clarification. Good thing I know I'm not doing anything wrong .
