Default Windshield help!!

I refuse to post a " my windshield got cracked boo hoo"- But it did get cracked and trying to get it replaced here in Oregon is apparently an issue.

My question is to all Toyota parts sellers, windshield installers, or anyone else that’s had their windshield replaced.

I specifically want a new windshield that says "Toyota" on it and not PPG. A PPG costs $350, and a "Toyota" cost $525- It doesn’t matter to me because the insurance picks it up,
My question is this- The guy at my Toyota parts counter says there is no guarantee what the windshield will say on it- but it’s directly off Toyota's production line. he said 9 times out of ten it says " Toyota" but if it doesn’t Im stuck with it!?

Can anyone back up his story? I think if you order something from Toyota, It should say Toyota!!

Does it really make that much of a difference? I doubt Toyota makes their own, probably a branded PPG with a markup.

If they said you had to pay the difference, would it matter then?

I had a boo hoo story, but my windshield cracked because I sprayed water on while it was sitting out in the morning sun

I got it replaced for free, and got a sticker on the window that says made in Japan

I think it matters a lot what it says. The windshield in my Focus is cracked, and instead of buying aftermarket for 350, I'm saving the 650 for the one that says Ford. I like to keep my ____ original as possible.

small rock chip + windows rolled up while playing slow and low by beastieboys on 1200w system = 15" crack in windshield PLUS rock chip. replacement? $572. Same deal with the possibility of it not saying Toyota on the screen.....wtf. Lol. Don't want to go through the insurance b/c I'm 19 and my rates are bad enough as it is.

Talk to your insurance company FIRST! Most policies count glass as Comprehensive and not Collision - meaning it doesn't count against you. Check it out, you should save a couple hundred...

It's funny that you guys are so worried about the name on the glass... There's another post around here where the guy SCRAPED off the Toyota on the windows to be more Scion... I guess everyone's got their issues. Like the Focus, I'd buy the one for half price then when IT breaks you won't be half as ____ed... but that's just me...

If you are getting it done through your insurance, the consumer can specify if they want, or don't want OEM windshields. Your insurance company is required to replace it as you want it as far as I know.

Some clarification... Talked to the guy at the parts counter in person. He thought I wanted a Toyota banner across the top- not for it to have a toyota logo on it.

After week cleared up that I wanted a Toyota windshield and not a PPG- he said it will "most likely" will say toyota on it- Thats why a PPG cost $350, and a Toyota cost $525. They are the exact same thing, except the name.

I just want to keep all toyota parts on my car.
I was side-swiped in my Ford Focus- the insurance co. wanted to use used parts- I said HELL NO- showed them all the pictures I had of my car prior, and since it was mint condition, they had to pay more for the new ford parts...

Its the same thing here-And BTW a claim with your insurance regaurding a windshield is considerd a comprehensive claim- meaning they cant use it against you...Now if you have prior claims with accident being your fault- and you make a comp. claim- they can drop you. My brother hit a teacher in his HS parking lot- cost our insurance comp. 17k- If I make A claim- they will drop us. Thats why Im going to a different company, And then making the claim...
