I'd never run anything higher than 6500k. even 6500k makes it hard to see in the rain.

the lower the k the brighter/whiter the light. so 12k is pretty much pure purple.

x2. same here. i knew when i ordered mine that it wasn't legal. no big deal, though. i mean, it doesn't have high beams. no problem though, i just swap out my HIDs AND my CAI now when i go to get it inspected, and as soon as i get back home, they go right back on.

**edit**: just to clear something up, i DID re-aim my headlights the day i installed the HID kit to where they now point down to where the factory lowbeams pointed. most of my driving is city, so i didn't need em pointed out for miles blinding everybody.

**another edit**PM me and i might be able to hook you up with HIDs

4300K to 4600K is white and the closest you can get to OEM. 6000K is considered to be an "ice white" which has a hint of blue to it. 8000K is blue and 10,000K to 12,000K is closer and closer to purple. The best way to convert to HID is by going retro-fit with bi-xenon projector housings and OEM ballasts. The cops in my area don't care if you do retro... but man they will nail you hard for using incorrect housing for HID bulbs.

Projector/Reflector bulbs burn like this
||OOO===---===OOO||

HID bulbs burn like this
||-==OOOOOO==--||

The difference is the hotspot on the HID bulbs are in the center of the bulb and the standard lights have hotspots at the ends of the bulb fillaments.

Here's a fantastic read on HID lights: http://www.intellexual.net/hid.html

Cheers

Umm that cant be true my mom has HID in her BMW and she never has problems at all with the popo. If they are so illegal why do they come on most of the cars now?
The lights that u see on Nissans, BMW, Acura and Caddy's might or might not be Halogen or Xenon they but some are HID.

i know the kits like the one i have are in fact illegal due to the loss of high beams.

I'm new to this forum and actually had a question about this same topic. Before I bought my 06' xB I was driving a 99' TL. The TL came with HID's so I really got use to this type of setup. When i first drove my xB @ night I noticed how crappy the lighting was.
I know I def. cannot see as far as I could if I were to drive my TL. Basically I'm wondering if there is a reliable HID kit out there that is worth buying. Even though i know it is illegal, I'm just way to use to the HID. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Whoster, we have over 10 retail stores that sell for us in Cali alone!
If that's the case, why do you suppose car manufacturers use 4100k on their OEM bulbs?
Audi and BMW sell Higherk at least every single one of em I've ever seen has straight up purple lights at least 8k......
