I'm about to go for it, I took all next week off of work (to try and kill some of all the time I've built up that they won't pay me for if I quit, it's a stupid PA law) and I'm going to try 3 of the toyota dealerships around me, I've heard they are all hiring so hopefully I'll get the job at one of them. They all offer some kind of salary the for the first month so that saves me wondering how I'll pay the bills until I sell a car. Hopefully it'll be as fun as my friend makes it out to be since we seem to be brothers from different mothers.

I have been working in the automobile industry at dealerships for 13 yrs. I started off as a salesperson then transfered into the IT as a systems adm. at a dealership. I have alot less stress selling cars than being in the IT. I love my job. I would recommend listening to the customers of these different dealerships to find out what they are really about. A great dealership will have happy employees and happy customers. Talk to the employees that don't sell cars, but the ones that work as hourly employees and find out how they are treated. Remember Happy employees mean happy customers.
Go for it! TOYOTA, SCION, SUBARU, HONDA. I have sold three of the 4 lines and everyone sells themselves.

If you end up working on comission, make sure the financing dept of the dealership you want to work for doesn't pull one of their little tricks like they did at the dealer in the Edmunds article- where they changed some sort of term somewhere and screwed the salesman out of his comission on a sale.
