I myself have actually looked into it as well....but realized that mushrooms will more or less serve the same purpose without the the rarity of Absinthe and bad side effects of LSD!
Vermouth also has wormwood extract in it.

FYI - All the Absinthe I saw listed its thujone content, which is the active compound in wormwood. Some are higher than others.

I've tried it a couple times... tho probably didn't drink enough to reach the 'hallucinations' phase... my ex made me buy it for him a few times... but I don't think it's worth it... I bought it online, and with the exchange rate being so ridiculous, probably cost me about $160 or so... per bottle...

It's ok I guess... everytime I would have people over my apt and they saw the bottle, they all wanted to try it... I agree tastes like black licorice, which I don't care for much at all... wouldn't say it tastes like jager tho, as I love my jager very much! A little too much at times...

I've tried a couple different brands (all imported from Europe) and as far as the hype goes, I'm not impressed. Nowadays, it's more of a novelty drink than anything else unless you manage to get a 50+ year old bottle ($$$$$).
The effects of thujone are sublte at best and most likely it's the high proof of the alcohol that you're going to notice. But then again anything that's 70-90% alcohol is going to have a serious kick.

^^ agreed
i bought some from the czech republic
it is legal to import, not legal for resale in the us
so while you will never see it at a store
you can order it directly from overseas
not cheap
very alcohol strong
and hope u like black licorice, cause this drink is all about teh anise
i can't stand licorice, but i tried this twice (about 3-4 drinks 6-8oz) each time getting drunk before noticing a slight heady/high feeling

i can PM you some websites, but searching google will get results

p.s.
effects can be duplicated by
1. do not eat for 10+hrs
2. drink 3 strong alcoholic drinks quickly (<20 minutes)
3. run 1 mile
4. all this should be done within 1hr of drinking

GOOD LUCK
