I would not buy a Rev. A product (iPhone in this case) as this seems like it is to test a future iPod Video. Also, many Rev. A products have had issues/bugs/defects like the Macbook CD (Rev A) which was then correct with the Macbook C2D (Rev B). I'm currently using a Rev B Macbook and have had none of the problems Rev. A or any problems for that matter! (knock on wood).

i'm sure if you buy a europe version or one from asia.. they will be unlocked. so it should work for others carriers too... just buy one directly from apple. unbranded... unlocked... thats the way they should sell it. i dunno.

At least they're combining two pretty standard accessories. Can't tell you how many times I've seen people listening to their iPod, and having to uplug themselves to use their phone. I almost feel bad for them, but not really. Having gone through a few MP3 phones myself, I an attest to this being a pretty seamless combination of the two.
Yes and no, while Apple isnt going to want it to happen, it's going to happen. Exclusive rights in the US will be held by Cingular, but Europe? Hmmm
And also, while it is Apple's phone, Apple isn't in the telephony business, most especially not the cellular world, someone else developed the wireless phone functionaility.
This is still cellular and it's still a cell phone, the basis of the "locking" is still there. In fact, I believe apple made this happen w/ the help of either Motorola or Nokia ... which should hold some optimism for those looking for an unlocked handset as new hacks and cracks come out for those phones faster than R&D can come out with software updates.
On the other hand ... you're looking at $600 under a 2yr contract ... do you really want to spend $800+ for a cell phone? iPod or otherwise?

1) Apple will not unlock the phone (they control the hardware), and will make it difficult for 3rd parties to unlock it during Cingular's exclusive term.
2) By the time T-Mobile gets the iPhone or unlocked iPhones start showing up, Apple will have signed another exclusive deal Cingular for the 2nd Gen iPhone (and you know it's going rock harder than the first).

Hopefully when they bring the next iPod out it'll have a lot of these features.
I bought my Photo right before they brought out the Video, so I'm holding out for the next one and this iPhone is definately a step in the right direction!
