I'm not a believer that Men and Women can be " just friends" But that's not for this topic.
Find her a card that comes close to expressing your friendship , tell her you appreciate her being your friend and want to say thanks . And leave it at that.
It's not about what you spend. It's about being there for someone.

what do you guys normally do for fun? Like Claudia said possibly take her to her favorite band or what about sports? Take her to a game? Take her to a place that has a comedy night happening. Ummmm flowers and perfume, what about a spa package, a gift certificate to Victoria Secret?

Well first off man... Do you plan on dating her again... Do you want to? You need these details if you want advice for a gift. Will this gift show her how much you want to make liquid explosion in her? (Hahahaha, Borat is so own).

Spa is a better idea than a basket of lotions/perfumes for several reasons:
1. she might not like at all the scent you choose and will never use it
2. she might be allergic to some products (God knows very few things can touch my skin without causing irritations)

BAKE her cookies. Thats right, you on your own make her something girls are shocked by it. My friends also believe that if you get a girl a puppy, and a box of chocolates she will instantly have sex with you.........but thats the theory anyways

how about a painting you did, or a song you wrote, always cheap you know?

mix tape was popular when i was in high school, lol.

does she drive a scion? how about modding her car with something cool?

depends on budget and how elaborate you want to get you know?

you could go "impersonal, but i care" - itunes gift cert
or you could go with "i think you are awesome and i pay real good attention" - awesome gift here.

i think that gifts are something the recipient will like that is most definately FROM YOU. i know it's cool that grandma wants this sweet blanket and set of gloves for christmas, but honestly, i bought them a handheld nav system to go in their RV. it will help them out, they will use it and that's the kind of person i am. i like toys and gadgets, and they like to travel, see what i mean. i could get you exactly what you say you want, or i could think about it and find something you will like that reminds you of ME. is that selfish? maybe, but i think it's how it should be done. for my wife's b-day last year, i took her to see Wicked at the fox in st. louis. wasn't what she said she wanted, but she loves to dress up and go out and do fun stuff, and i love theatre - perfect fit, and she still tells the story to this day.

you got to make it personal. what do you like TOGETHER? you know, band you saw together? buy her that CD. restraunt you liked together? take her back! car you drooled over together? set up a test drive and get her a model replica! magazine you introuduced her to that she LOVES? buy her a subscription of it! enjoy washing cars together ona sunday afternoon? buy her a bucket and soap! whatever it is, think of something you have in common and get her something related to that. she'll like it because she likes it with you, and she'll think of you when using it. whatever it is, make it something you like together. i hate buying gifts for people that they want. jeez, if you want it, go buy it! a gift should be a present that you normally wouldn't buy for yourself that some gives to you as an indulgence. that's why flowers are the standard thing to give. you wouldn't just buy YOURSELF flowers, but they are nice, and smell nice and pretty and all that. it is 100% useless and simply for the enefit of the recipient. that makes it nice, because you got them something they wouldn't have got for themself, but it's nice to have. get it?

my $.02 . . . i will get off the soapbox now, lol.
