Taft man speeds away until he crashes

Posted: Wednesday January 4th, 2006, 8:49 AM
Last Updated: Wednesday January 4th, 2006, 8:49 AM

A felony warrant suspect in Taft sped away from deputies early Wednesday morning before he crashed and rolled a stolen car, Kern County sheriff officers reported.

Brian Maloy, 24, of Taft was in fair condition at Kern Medical Center following the 3 a.m. pursuit on Highway 33 from Maricopa to Taft, officials said.

Deputies went to a hotel at 3 a.m. in Maricopa where they had information Maloy was staying.

As they were there, Maloy drove by in a maroon Toyota Scion. Deputies attempted to stop Maloy, but he sped around several streets in Maricopa before he headed northbound on Highway 33, officers said. A deputy from Taft was driving southbound on the highway where Maloy drove into his lane, causing the deputy to take evasive action, officers said.

As the pursuit reached speeds of 130 mph and approached a curve in the road at Taft, deputies backed off.

Maloy’s car struck an asphalt curb, causing the car to roll over several times. Maloy was airlifted to Kern Medical Center.

He will be booked into the jail on charges of felony evading arrest, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, auto theft and several other arrest warrants, deputies said.

One warrant was for a charge of possession of controlled substances, Kern County court records say.

The tC is limited to 127mph. I believe that is what he is getting at in the news story by highlighting 130. The tC's computer won't let it go over 127. I am guessing that xA's and xB's are the same.

stock, my xB won't go past something like 105 or so...unless I have a REALLY stiff tail wind, drafting from a semi, and use my feet to push.

Flatground, stock i did 107mph (big difference huh ) With i/h/e, lowered and other things, flat ground 118mph.

The xb/xa isn't limited to 127 being our speedo doesn't read past 125mph. I don't think we are limited, because i've read a few posts of f/i guys reaching 122-123mph. I don't see why it would limit at 122mph with 3mph left. Of course, they could be lying but i know at least one wouldn't lie about something like that.

Yeah, I'm sure it was a tC and they can hit close enough to 130 that the cops will report it as 130 to the news. Still, that's top-end for a tC.

This is the best my xB has done:

There was a little wind and it was flat (I think, sorry, I wasn't paying much attention to scenery at the time!).

Sweet, you must be in with Toyota to get a tC from the factory with no rev limiter.

I'm gonna raise the flag on Monarch:

Doesn't mean you can't go faster than that with some help from gravity and/or wind. Do you think the governor is set to an exact MPH or is it based on engine factors? I'd bet the latter...

Actually, I'd be willing to bet it's based on the speedo. That would really be the easiest way...

I don't know that for sure, of course, but the speed is logged in your PCM and it would be really easy for the car to see a particular speed and then do something about it.

Just my opinion.

As i said above, i don't think the xb/xa ones even for autos. Trans doesn't effect wether you have a limiter or not. tC still does.

ive had the xB up to 116 across the CO/NE border. It might have gotten to 120 if I was lucky on the downhill coming up, but then again on that downhill stretch was a curve....

I backed it down to 90-95 safely I doubt it was a boosted/swapped (xb/xa) so I assume it was a tC. It would make sense that he would be getting close to 130 at least.

Hell ya! Thats the MOST interesting part! tC rolls several times and driver is in "fair" condition  thats pretty amazing!

Scions new ad campaign:

"Might as well steal ours, because if you get chased and flip it, youll still be okay!"
