Define Ricer
I bough an intake just for the noise, looks and brand didn't care much for HP if I really cared I would have gotten the SI or super charge my tC does that make me a ricer? does that mean any one with an Intake is a Ricers? cause really does anyone feel those extra 5 Horse at 5600 RPM?
I ve been reading a lot of posts and I ve read a lot against "ricers" my question is what is a ricer?
At first I thought it was anyone driving a Japaneses or any Asian car which would put all tC drivers as ricers
Then I figured it was people to do mods for looks and not performance, but that would again put tC Drivers as ricers as tC is not a race car or performance car but still a mod car and we all know we bought it for the looks as SS covalt and Civic SI will kick our ___.
Then I though it was people who did cheap mods (price and quality wise) to their cars, but this again puts most tC owners as ricers other then the looks why did you get the tC.... it was the cheap price tag and I ve seen a bunch of mods that were strictly price oriented here.
So what is a Ricer?

ur rs3 isnt ricey at all. (wow my comp said i typed that whole sentence wrong, but this one correct!) rice is a car with WILD bod kits (ten million air vents, falling off, not properly fit, fog lights twice as big as ur head), fake hood scoops, fart cannon exhausts, fast and the furious stickers, triple deck spoilers, 2x4 spoilers, ebay tail lights, fake carbon fiber, boost gauges that stay at 0, even tho there is no turbo (my favorite!!!), colored windshield wipers, ebay headlights (anzos have an exception, if they have an eyelid.), fake side vents, mis matched paint, "m3 style" mirrors, crazy side graphics like jon's back in the day (LOL sorry jon!!), and u cant forget the usual neon in a ___ color, and a BUNCH more. if u look into the rice and tators thread, there are some great examples.

Price is not part of the equation. Rice is essentially a modification (usually poorly done) that decreases the asthetics of the vehicle. Big wings are not always rice, the WRX come stock with one, big wings on an escort are.
Some would argue that anything not performace-related is rice, but I disagree, or why would anyone drive an xB to start with? My personal definition is any modification that is poorly installed, non-functional (fake hood scoops, boost gauges with no turbo, etc.) or against the character of the vehicle (anything aerodynamic or round on an xB). The main offenders are unpainted body kits, eBay exhausts, aluminum wings on non-aerodynamic vehicles, and U-bracket fog lights. An intake for the look or sound isn't specifically rice, I consider it engine dress-up the same as croming a valve cover or a color-matched battery. It's only rice if it looks ugly or redneck-engineered. (Duct tape for ducts ONLY)

This should be in Webster's "Rice is essentially a modification (usually poorly done) that decreases the aesthetics of the vehicle" Nicely put
I thought at first word was coined for any modified 4 cyl. vehicle, that and since most people call any modification, good or bad, they don't personally like as rice that's what threw me off
One thing though non-functional? that would put wings on that categories since most "rice cars" are front wheel so I guess it still comes down to personal preferences

Depends on the wing and the car I would think. A more agressively styled car could get away with a larger wing and still have it enhance the look of the vehicle if the wing followed the vehicle lines (think 1st gen Eclypse). Also, the wing isn't just for down force, my xB has a wing, as do some minivans. Their whole purpose is to divert the airstream downward to fill in the vacuum left by the front of the vehicle moving air out of the way. It's there to decrease drag.
Oh, and add to the fake hood scoops those Buick-style portholes people stick on their front fenders, and any lettering on the fender stating your rim size.
"all tC drivers as ricers" I've got to share this with one of our club members who has an unhealthy relationship with carbon fiber appliques.

it's really not fair to label some cars as rice because we all have different tastes and such. I agree with Vet anything that looks cheap and was bought off ebay for the most part does not belong in a car period. Wings are fine as long as they don't look fugly on the car. Depends on how it flows. one thing tho. For the love of GOD I don't know who thought this looked good, PLEASE don't paint pieces of your car like grills bright neon colors when your car is black or any other color for that fact.

The tC at the top of this page. perfect example. Crappy wing, and glued on roof scoop
I could care less about stickers I don't know why people get so bent out of shape about it honestly it's just a sticker? Why do you post movie posters in your room your not getting paid to etc...

...and little stickers ALL over your car... specially those HUGE APC ones that take up half the front windshield.
Actually, I saw a 5th gen accord that was red.. had the euro ails... "chrome" style rims, A BIG red banner on the wshield that said "TRANSFORMERS" and red tinted windows...oh yea and a muffler that looked like an old coffee can, and sounded like a swarm of bees.
.. IMO rice is a jacked up car (most of tha time older), with "stylin'" and "perf" parts... when the car itself needs help (fading paint, and and semi attached bumpers and stuff).
