Default Deputy makes an "oops, my bad."

SHERIFF'S DEPUTY MISTAKES PISTOL FOR TASER
Man reluctant to leave tree is shot, reportedly says, ‘Ow, that hurt’

BREMERTON, Wash. - A sheriff's deputy who was trying to get a man down from a tree shot and wounded him after mistakenly pulling a gun instead of a Taser, authorities say....
The deputy, a five-year veteran of the force whose name was not released, was placed on leave while Thursday's shooting is investigated....
Deputies carry both a Taser and a gun on their utility belts. The Taser, or stun gun, is similar in shape to the compact .40-caliber gun the deputy carried, sheriff's spokesman Scott Wilson said. The victim was listed in satisfactory condition....
The man had climbed a fig tree and stayed there for hours, talking to himself. Deputies were unsure whether he was intoxicated or psychotic, and they wanted to get him down before he hurt himself or others, Wilson said....
Deputies and rescue workers tried to coax him down for almost two hours, during which he became increasingly hostile, said David Blakeslee, an employee at an auto repair shop nearby. Blakeslee said the man climbed down on his own after getting shot....
"He said, `Ow, that hurt. I'm coming down, I'm coming down,'" Blakeslee said.

wait a minute here, "they wanted to get him down before he hurt himself or others"? how was he going to hurt others? throw figs at them? i assume the way he would hurt himself would be by either eating too many figs or by falling out of the tree. the officer was intending to address the safety concern by tasering him? he would have fallen out of that tree like a wayward bear that had been hit by a tranquilizer dart! so much for his safety as he seizured his way to the ground.

thank god the deputy shot him with the .40 caliber. the guy just went "ouch, hey!", and climbed down on his own.

damn Brema-lo's.....

yeah.. wonder if that cop had his taser customized to look like a gun?? i highly doubt this was a "quick-draw" type situation.. he had more than enough time to pull out a or b... then go oopss my bad switch....

Haha I read that when it was printed to press. It was the talk of the day around work.

Move to Bremerton. Where we "might" shoot you if we know what gun to draw out.

Your average small town cop is not that far removed from a mall security guard.
