I don't brag to my family about spending money (I know, I know it's not just "spending money," but that is how anyone not "involved" in a specific hobby is likely to view it), and they generally don't comment on any of my excesses.

That has only applied, though, for the last 40 years or so, since I moved out of my parents house and established my own household.

So long as I was under my parents' roof, I followed their rules, and accepted their guidance and comments.

Once I was under a different roof, they were still my parents, but they (and I) recognized that the rules had changed, and *I* was responsible for my decisions - as long as those decisions didn't affect them.

(If I borrowed money from them, for example, they would of course have some say about how i spent my money until they were paid back. That kind of thing is understandable and certainly acceptable.)

Once one is on their own (and that means not living under someone else's roof...), a line has to be drawn. That line says "this is my life and I am responsible for my actions."

How to convince parents of that I won't even try to get into, and how to convince a twin is likely even more difficult. (I dunno, I'm not a twin - the world was saved from having to figure out how to deal with TWO of me.)

Anyway, I don't brag to my family about what I spens or even what I can spend. If someone is bold enough to butt in and say something out of place, they are ignored (well, they are after one of THOSE looks...).

Tom

i got up to pg2 and didnt want to read anymore... u should think about sitting everyone down and tellin them its ur hobby. If they give you a BS look, try not to slap them(or is that only me) just go away and just continue modding to make ur car look hot. those rims r B-E-A utiful!

Tomas, I do live with my mom. This is her house BUT I PAY HER RENT.

In my case whether I live under her roof or my own she will continue to input her comments and ideas; and even though my twin now lives on her own there is no less of a bickering about my car.

The money is mine and I think they see that I deserve happyness but I think they just can't see what's so great about cars..

I guess once I hit 30 and move to a different continent (MAYBE) I will have some freedom lol

Sux that they have to verbally say stuff to you on it. One thing not to be interested, other thing to dog it. If they are not going to be supportive, perhaps you should separate it.. Your Scion Fam and your real fam. haha.. Like every family, you don't have to get along but you can respect each other.

BTW, those rims are pretty.

I'm lucky my mom is supportive, she likes it when I give her scion hats, etc. She ask me where I'm going and I tell her I have a Scion thing, even when I went to the Prevue event in NYC she was cool with it. Some of my friends think I was crazy to drive all the way to NY to go clubbing on a weekday.

Relating... I'd be sad if she didn't support my pool ambitions. I'll make her proud when she sees me on ESPN.. haha.. (long shot)

That whole situation sucks but I don't think you should let it get to you so bad. You're not going to stop modding your car and they're not going to stop nagging you. It's one of those things where you are right no matter what and they are right no matter what. In the end, it's your money. You, your mom, and sister just need to deal with it. You should have seen my parents face when they woke up one Saturday morning with a bright green box sitting in their driveway!

I'd suggest keeping modding ur car. yea it sux that they dont support it, but i think it'll be worse if u stop modding it and then, day after day, think about what u could have done/brought for it.
its a tough situation. its always good to make the peeps around you happy, but what good is that if ur not happy?

luckily, im not in the same boat. my mom says its a lot of money, but she likes it. my bro got me into the car scene, so he's not complaining. he jus helps me managae everything out and let me kno when i need to chill out and save, then spend later. my other bro is coo wit it, its like watever to him. and my dad is also supportive. yes, he still says that a whole lotta money that coulda been spent elsewhere, but he understands that it is my money. if i go broke then its my fault. gotta learn from ur mistakes.

on another note, im in ur boat when it comes to shoes. i spend to much money on shoes, well, jordans. like 150-175 a pair. they say my shoes or nice, but they complain about the spending. i dont buy that many anymore since im modding my car now.

well, that was a whole bunch of nothin. lol. pretty much, if they werent supporting me, i'd still buy my shoes/mod my car. y? because i ilke doing. i am no longer asking them for money, so there should be no reason they should be knocking me for doing it.

so pweez, continue to mod ur car. and post pics
and most importantly, be HAPPY doing it

while i wouldn't spend 150+ on atheletic shoes, i have on docs, and campers.

anyone who gives you gruff for it, say "if you're going to spend money on anything, make sure it's either your shoes or your bed, because if you're not in one, you're in the other."
