fog lights and high beams
okay, over and over again, it is stated that the reason why fog lights turn off when you flip on the high beams is because you can only have 4 forward facing lights on at a time on a car. but this makes absolutely no sense because every car i have driven that has factory integrated fog lights does this.
examples:
1995 ford explorer: low beam and high beam are same bulb with dual filaments, yet the fogs turn off when you flip on the high beams. so there are 4 lights on with the low beams, and then only 2 with the high beams.
2003 chevy suburban: high and low beam are separate bulbs in separate housings, BUT the low beams turn off when the high beams come on, AND so do the fog lights, so there are 4 lights on with the low beams, but again, only 2 on with the high beams.
2005 scion tC: separate bulbs for the high and low beams, but the low beams stay on when the high beams come on, but the fog lights turn off. so 4 stay as 4.
2006 scion xA: again, dual filament bulb for the high and low beam, yet the foglights turn off when the high beam comes on. so again 4 become 2 only.
so only on the scion tC are there 4 lights on when the high beams are on. yet the other cars i have listed go from 4 forward facing lights to only 2. why is this, if it is because of some sort of law, does anybody know where it is written down online that i can see it? it just seems strange that if it was a law, why don't the other cars i listed keep 4 lights running with the high beams?

well, it is just that people say you are only allowed to have 4 lights on at a time on the front of your car, but so far, the tC is the only car i have driven that has 4 lights on at a time. so the other 3 cars should leave their fog lights on when the high beams come on because they would still only have 4 lights on, but instead they only have two lights on.

They don't turn off if you just flash them...I don't think they do. I've only had mine in for a few days so I haven't noticed. I did notice that my parents Jeep does this, if you turn the highs on, the fogs turn off but if you just flash the highs, all 6 lights stay on. Can't answer your question though.

I believe there is a law stating you can't have your highs & fogs on at the same (regardless if they are single or dual bulbs) but I don't where to find it though....
Nothing a simple re-wire can fix which is what I did with my previous truck I owned.
