well, i think your post came off a little judgemental. if he's fine with the arrangement and his girlfriend is as well, then there isn't any harm done. but then again, maybe i misinterpreted your post and you were just asking a question and i read that as sarcasm on your part.

hmm i say go for a hike preferably somewhere by a river or lake, even if its snowy outside, come back and warm up with hot chocolate and cook together and have lots of really good red wine and reminisce about good old times. tennis bracelets are always classy, make sure you dont buy fake stuff (would you want her giving you an ebay intake or an injen intake?). it's not about the money, it's about the time you spend together...although personally i'd be happy with some hotchkis sways and call it a day
this is not about how romantic a guy can be it's about taking time out of your busy schedule and having both people appreciate each other.
tv, beer, and takeout can be reserved for those other evenings

i say why do you need a day to tell your gf/wife you love her?? id rather buy her something nice just cuzz i want to ...v-day is a day were everyone expects something or your a @$$hole wich is lame ....if your gf/bf whatever really loves you they shouldnt expect anthying ...if you didnt care why would ya allready do so much ...sorry just my thoughts

Ok...on a serious note.....Heres my Plan
I have taken the day off to spend with her, Like I said its our first together and I would like it to be special.
Gonna make breakfast for her
We agreeded that we wouldnt buy each other any gifts because we are buying a house and should close this month and need the the money for any unexpected things.
So instead, I got her a brick....(damn Ed, what kind of guy gets their girl a brick for v-day?)
Its a Brick form our soon to be new home, I took one from the House and engraved our names and the year on it.
So..Dinner at 5pm to beat the rush and an early movie and then we will retire back to my place to chill out and begin the Donkey Punches
