Question Has a radar detector ever saved you from getting a ticket?

Are radar detectors worth getting? A lot of people said that by the time the radar detector detects the cop, he already has your speed so its pointless (especially with laser detector guns.) Has a radar detector ever saved you from getting a ticket?

Smart driving and constant awareness (fundamentals of safe driving) keep you out of tickets more than any fancy doo-dad you can stick to your windshield. Besides, WHEN you do end up getting pulled over and you have a detector in the windshield, your chances of getting a ticket go up when the cop sees it. It's like wearing fur to a PETA convention... just doesn't sit right with the audience lol.

Some people love them, some people (like me) don't but I've had one before and I found myself driving the same with and without one. Crazy drivers will be crazy drivers and safe drivers will be safe drivers. That is all.

my cobra has saved me a few times.

radar detectors aren't good when it comes to the motorcycle police: they can easily turn their gun on and off and they target individual cars

they work well picking up the radar from the crown vics because the c.v's radar shoots out a wide field and isnt directly pinpointed at any certain car. that has allowed me to pick up their radar before i go over hills, under bridges, etc.

they can save you sometimes, but dont be surprised if you get screwed every now and again

oh, and when are you gunna organize another shoot? (:

Well, I guess it's impossible for a radar detector to actually "save" you from getting a ticket. It requires you to slow down to actually avoid the ticket so the best investment should be brakes! lol

I have a Passport and it has saved me. I don't use it for regular driving; just when I'm going a little bit of a distance.

damn that sucks.
i guess californias rules are different.
i was pulled over and the cop sat in my car, after he made me pop my hood, and said "these are illegal", which i replied "no they are not, the scrambler isnt turned on" and he let me go.

either its true (for CA at least) that they are fine if the scrambler is turned off, or the cop didnt know sheeeet

Scramblers are illegal everywhere if I remember correctly but they have to prove it was being used. If you so much as have a radar detector within reach when you get pulled over in VA and they suspect (they make the rules lol) you used it in "their" state then you get a ticket... sucks for real.

My Beltronics STi Driver has given me save and save again and again. I only go about 10 over the limit anyways but thats enough to pull you over. Constant awareness as stated and learning how to interpret the results of the radar is key.

^ QFT. If the cop wants to pull you over, he'll find a reason. Your attitude and his demeanor determine whether or not you end up fined.

^x2 I had a State Trooper pace me for a few miles as I passed all the other scared cars going 5 under because of his presence. He pulled next to me, kept looking and double-taking at the front of my car, and pulled me over for no front plate.

mine has saved my ___ plenty of times. Did get hit one time passing a semi. Cop was only using the gun and not the dash mount, so my radar went off when the radar was fired....ooops.

they're illegal in most of the tri-state area too... i've had 2 of them and they were both USELESS(they'd go off as i was passing the cop). It's much more useful to pay attention, and to learn what police headlights look like so you see them coming :D

true to a certain point. cops dont go out of their way to pull you over by searching for any reason. if a cop wants to pull you over all he has to do is pull you over and hes probably already got a reason. dont do anything wrong or drive suspicious and youll be fine, just drive normal. cops have better stuff to do then just try to find any reason to pull people over, shoot all they generally have to do is wait one more minute and theyve got somebody doing something illegal. also as far as their desicion to cite you most of the time is already decided before they pull you over, but yes your attitude and honesty will go along way as well. if your going to speed though most cops or atleast all the ones ive dealt with, worked with, or knew generally wont pull anybody over for doing under 10 over just isnt worth it for under 10. i usually go about 7-8 over and have yet to be pulled over unless ive hit 10 over or more.
