Oz was the first of it's kind, and when you watch it, you can see that HBO didn't know what they were doing, but were going to give it their best shot anyway. It's a little over the top as far as using slightly unrealistic premises to move the plot along, but overall a great job by HBO. Probably one of the most violent shows ever.

Entourage is pretty cool. They bill it as a comedy, but it's really just mildly amusing for the most part. Loads of hotties (a definite need after watching testosteronville, er I mean Oz.) and it does have it's funny moments. However, the show is good enough to not need a bunch of jokes.

Rome is straight up gangsta. It's like watching the Sopranos (before the 4th or 5th season when it got all effiminate) with swords. The first season runs like it is a short time, but if you pay attention you can notice the techniques that writers used to demonstate that it's actually taking 4 or 4 years. Great great show. Can't figure out why a bunch of Romans speak with a brit accent, but there it is. Loads of nudity, violence, intrigue, and suspense with great writting. Kinda of like Deadwood, you might need to rewind a couple of times to get what they are saying.

You should also check out Dexter. It's a Showtime thing. The premise is that a dude is a blood splatter expert for the cops, and a serial killer at the same time. Loads of primo channel soap all stars, including the b&w ___ couple from six feet. In fact, the white dude is the main man on the show, and it took me like forever to figure it out. The black guy plays a cop, and the Puerto Rican nurse from Oz is in the show too. There's a couple of others from Oz too, but since you aint seen it, it don't matter. Anyway, great great show. Kinda like Oz, some of the plot movers are a little over the top as well, but oh well. Low on the nudity, medium on the violence, high on the gore, but outstanding intrigue and suspense.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to dexter when it hits dvd. the premise seems very cool. I've seen the entire 6ftunder series a couple times and that ___ brother is defintiely the best actor on that.

so what do you think is better, oz or the shield?

thanks, i'll definitely have to rent rome next.

the shield = very cool premise, good overall plot.... but it's got some really bad acting, poor dialogue, low budget. But I say poor dialogue/writing in comparison to the Law&Orders which have set the bar for this type of show a higher. I do like this show, but it's pretty flawed and I wouldn't recommend this show if your used to hbo/showtime. People who only have watched broadcast, or if they think b.s. like CSI miami is good, then they'll love it.

The series does appear to get better writers and budget by season 4-5, but i think it's too little, too late.

You'd probably like The Wire. It's another HBO, set in Baltimore. Another show I missed due to schedule and lack of TiVo. Anyway, it's another crime show about the hood and drugs and snit, very authentic (the main writer was a beat cop or High School teacher in the ruff sections of Baltimore that the show covers.) Looks like it'd be pretty awesome.

I can't get into curb you enthuasim, and as a diehard seinfeld fan, i don't understand why it's so well liked.

my big problems with it are #1 the camera, i can't stand watching it. it's supposed to be reality, but the jittery camera work is so gimicky.

#2 richard lewis. ugh. i love standup comedy, therefore i hate richard lewis.

#3 the actors playing people i like, but the supporting cameos i don't.

I recently got into Weeds. I don't have showtime though. So, I have to resort to the seasons on dvd. So far I have only watched the first season. Not bad. I wasn't sure if I would like it at first, but I was pretty impressed. Looking forward to season two.

yes, it's a cute show. im not sure about her fcking that drug dealer and having him now backing her up.

and eating it over smoking it? not very realistic for people concerned about money to be wasting it like that.

Entourage is indeed fantastic entertainment, but I wouldn't go so far as to calling it the best. Rome and Dexter are far more intriguing to me.

Nope, THE BEST.

Not that I don't like Rome or Dexter, which are also both great.

i rented te first disk of rome, on scionofpcfl's suggestion, it's pretty good. I had my girlfriend TRY and watch it with me, she wasn't the biggest fan of the near constant sex scenes. it's pretty good, about like deadwood imo.

Yeah, but you also think Borat wasn't any good, so you opinion doesn't hold much water

Ari needs his own show.
