Not even - the Pacer rocks!
And it didn't kill you, well, aside from your social life.

Pacer (with different size driver and passenger doors) and Gremlin (big engine, shortened body) were just weird, and typical of American Motors - they marched to a different drummer.

The (early) Pinto was unsafe through poor design that Ford refused to even acknowledge for far too long, and the Vega was just a rolling disaster that looked nice (miniaturized Camaro), but self destructed in short order.

I have to admit that I think it is super cool and a lot of those VWs are well done-it takes talent to get the hoods to look just that certain way.

I have to say that the rat rod revolution for the last 5+ years probably kicked it off but some of the newer stuff is very cool.

I dig Gothbox's look and there is another one on here done with green chalkboard paint that is cool too.

Personally I don't see how it's any worse than all the black (whether real carbon fibre or not) add ons that people are running. (Real carbon might lighten things but carbon look or black painted parts-it's just a different color paint-just like rust color)

Here's the thing about the hoodride trend. It does work on some of the older VWs, because it appears natural. The user stenger here, was the first one to do this to a box. Fine, not my personal preference, but why not.

The one thing that people need to realize is that by doing this, you're not 'bucking a trend' or being unique. Stenger stated that by doing this, he wasn't trying to conform to design standards like VIP... what he didn't realize is that he absolutely is conforming, more to a VW design standard, but still.

I think a lot of people jumped down his throat, not because of how it looked, but because of the attitude that he presented along side of it.

Gothbox is doing this and it works on his car, but this is something that I would NEVER do to mine.

On a side note, I'm moving this to OT, so everyone can enjoy.

call me old fashioned if you want or call me just plain biased to what i would consider a ratrod (a look i can appreciate btw).

this whole deal of takin an import car, making the hood rusty or whatever does not make it a rat rod in my opinion.

rat rods are old old old trucks or cars that are rusty and finished to minimum standards for legality on the road and safety for the driver. no fancy paint. or clean lookin paint. NO IMPORTS. they are not rat rods. they are ricers. if its made rusty to look like a rat rod then its just a rusty ricer.

thats my opinion any way. just dont see how you can consider an import a rat rod.

well hell in this case I am not going to worry about painting my bug it looks like I am in line with the current trends. If some one ask me abut my color choice I will tell them it is CANDY CROISION, and for 8 grand I can paint your car too.

Ratrods (dont ever call them that around hotrodders, they hate that term)
Are where people take used parts from whatever vehicle and throw them together to make a a good looking ride. They dont go out of their way to make them look like rust buckets, Rather pull them from the junk yard, throw it on the car, and be done. Taking a perfectly fine brand new vehicle and making it look old and beater is quite retarded if you ask me.. Not only does it make your car look like crap. Im sure it brings down the value as well.
