Default Home speaker selection help

I've been trying to find information on rear speakers for my stereo. However there isn't a whole lot out there that I've been able to find. I want mid-high level rear speakers for surround sound but I can't seem to find them. I have two mirage bookshelf speakers and an infinity center channel as well as two handmedown speakers from some dumb all in one shelf system. I really need to get some rears and I was curious if anyone could recommend a good unit. I was hoping to spend like $100 but i'd go up to about $200 if its good quality. I was hoping that they would be fairly small as well, possibly easily mounted on the wall behind me. Please help!

you could go with a pair of mirage omnisats. they aren't the best but they sound good with a sub behind them. they are in your price range on ebay. i wouldn't really use bookself speakers up front tho. if you can i would put the omnisats up front and move the bookshelves to the rear. if you are going to sacrifice anywhere then i would do it with the rear channels. most people i work with ask us to turn then up because they don't hear them. and just for credentials sake i've been doing custom home theater stuff for about 3 years. i'm currently a designer/programmer but still very much enjoy installation.

The nanosats I found were in my range, but the omnisats are like $250 a piece. My fronts sound good already, I really need something that would specialize in the rear. Plus the mirage that I already have would be too big for rears. I need something a bit smaller or lighter. I tried hooking up the handmedown speakers to it but they are just too quiet. The gauge of wire on it is really small and its hardwired into the box. Those are large speakers too. Think the nanosats would be sufficient for rears?

here is a pair of omnisats for $289. the nanosats are just a little small for my liking. they will definately work but if you have larger fronts i would go with something to compliment.

heres a link the omni's on ebay

Eh, I'm not down with white speakers. My whole room has black desks, dressers, speakers, stereo, computer, etc.

I came across these, know anything about them?

never heard of them. but it seems that they will do the job. it's good that it's bi-pole. they are specifically made to be a rear channel speakers. i would go for it. if they suck you can always put them on ebay.

Experience has taught me that you do not want to do too much mixing and matching with your speakers. You can connect all Polk speakers to a Sony reciever. But, it may not be good for sound or the reciever to mix and match.

A big issue for you will be color, and brands differ.

I have a yamaha 6 speaker package with a 130 watt self-powered sub that I got from Best Buy for $350. All hooked up to a Sony reciever. They setup is all silver. The set came with 6 (althought I only use 5) Yamaha slim speakers with 4, 4'' cones and 1, 1' tweeter per. Sounds sick. It also came with 2 floor stands for the front speakers and all of the wiring, and good instructions.

I know that its more than you want to spend, but brands when mixed and matched dont always sound good. I replaced a mutt set of sony speakers with the yamahas because of an off sounding vibe.

May be worth the extra $ and may not.

If you want just a good set of shelf speakers. Sony makes some 5'' shelf speakers that are silver with a black cover so they "go both ways" and they sound pretty damn good.

Well so far the only problem I came across with the mix of my mirage and infinity speakers is the center channel tends to drown out the others. But my tuner has adjustments for that which I used and equalized them out nicely. I have the same with rears too, so I should be ok, I think.

Sell them all and buy a Bose Tower of power. Problem solved.

Yeah, with the proper adjustment you should be ok. I ended up going with the matched set for aesthetic purposes as much as sound.

If I ever got my system to sound like my tC's, I think I'd get evicted.

I am a vandersteen fan... however... http://htd.com/ has pretty nice stuff.... you may consider holding off for a couple of months to save some more cash... a nice set of cables for your speakers should set you back a couple hundred... stay away from BOSE, they have been spitting crap since they sold out years ago... unless you run across a set of 801's or something... those are badass...
