I can't believe it!!!

Thanks. I'm not sure that I'll be going there, due to cost, distance, and rigor, but I'm going to give it serious thought. It's either MIT or down the road at Tech.
I got deferred early, so I wasn't expecting this at all. This is the best surprise in my life to date, for sure.

I've heard from my 4 schools: Accepted to Georgia Tech, Accepted to UGA, Denied by Caltech, and now Accepted to MIT. It's going to be a very tough choice between Georgia Tech and MIT.

Well, it's going to come down to MIT v. Georgia Tech. Here are my main areas and the stats:
Price: $42,000/year MIT vs. ~$3,500/year Tech
Location: Far away from all friends and family MIT vs. 20 miles from home Tech
Rigor: Hardest in world MIT vs. Still very hard, but not as bad Tech
People: ??? nerdiness MIT vs. 72% male Tech.
Honestly, I think that it will come down to the people there. Contrary to what you might think by my acceptance, I am not a nerdy kid. I do love math and science, but I also play varsity soccer, have an attractive girlfriend (if I may say so myself), and have many hobbies that are NOT school, primarily my tC and R/C cars.
If it's a total nerdfest at MIT, I doubt that I'll end up there. I want to experience the school, but I also want to experience college, ya know?

Who's paying?

Good question. My grandmother verbally pledged, "If you get in, I'll pay for you," but that was a long time ago and who knows if/how serious she was. Honestly, I will find a way if need be.

Mechanical engineering. I'm psyched because both GA Tech and MIT participate in the Formula SAE program, where they build race cars from scratch that are a cross between small F1-esque cars and go karts, then compete against other schools.
And yes, my name is Pall. Thank my Icelandic mother for that one! Middle name is Magnus, hence my handle.
I've never heard of any other Palls either. And as a last name too!

If I may suggest.....
Both Schools are 1st rate, however...
DO NOT BURY YOURSELF IN DEBT paying for the education...
I have witnessed way too many bright kids who grab every "loan" program they can to finance their continuing education ,( ie: excellent grades so the "offers are plentiful)
THEN the bomb drops right on their heads after they do graduate.....100,200 and as high as $300,000+ due when they finish grad school....for the next 10 or 15 or 20 years you are just working to pay off those "easy" loans.
freebie grants usually are ok..... but READ the "fine print" 1st before you sign anything
You have done one hell-of-a-job so far.... keep up the great work and congrats!

Congratz...... if you're smart enough to get into MIT.. i would've figured you were smart enough to apply for every scholarship program out there........
On the other hand, you could always sell your tC.. ;-)

After attending college and wanting to go back I would have to say that MIT would be a no brainer for me if I were in your shoes. As said earlier, the contacts you will make and the opportunities there just because it is MIT is enough. Having those 3 letters on your degree will automatically make people look at you once you graduate. G, Tech is no slouch for a college but some schools just grab people when you say their names and MIT is one of them. Good luck in your choice and congrats on the acceptance.
