To put it simply, its not about where something is made or by who, its about which market its sold in. Its not about the manufacturer but about the end user. Does that make sense? So no, the Tanabe exhaust for the tC isnt JDM. Nothing for the tC is JDM since there are no tC's sold in Japan and no manufacturer makes parts with the intention of selling them for tC's in Japan.

Lets also look at this, the OP mentioned Tanabe and their exhausts being manufactured in Japan. Lets take the Concept G exhaust. That same model exhaust is made for multiple cars. The difference being really only the bends in the piping between each model. The Concept G may be available for the Nissan Silvia (JDM 240sx) as well as the tC. How is the exhaust JDM for the Silvia and USDM for the tC? The intention of distribution. Its the same part, just different cars, except that the one for the Silvia was only intended to be sold in Japan for that model, just as the one for the tC was intended to be sold in the USDM.

1) There is no 'type R' scion
2) Mugen does not do Scion
3) If you have air horns ON your hood-(well enough said-mexi-rice anyone)
4) If you have a four door automatic sedan and you put a huge tuner sticker on it (like from the front wheel over the rear wheel-like 5 feet long) it does not make your car a racer
5) If you are cornering hard enough you are on your bump stops because you cut your springs you will loose it at the first pavement ripple and I will laugh at you sliding into the weeds
6) Stereo stickers do not make your car louder (or faster)
7) A coffee can doesn not make a good muffler
Stock size steelies with stock size tires on the front and aluminum rear wheels does not make a car a drag racer
9) stickers that say 'tunerz' do not a tuner car make
and #10)
THE THINGS THAT YOUR TIRES GO ON THAT HAVE LOG NUT HOLES AND BOLT TO YOUR CAR ARE NOT RIMS-THEY ARE WHEELS (rims are just the outer circle where your tires mount-think of a bicycle wheel and the fact that it contains a rim)
