i was just watching MTV and when the show went commercial
it said "This program is sponsored by TOYOTA SCION, what moves you"

i know some ppl were talking about this like
some parts of scion cars says TOYOTA on it or like your insurance card says TOYOTA scion.

but why is that? they dont say TOYOTA LEXUS or i dont see any toyota logo on lexus cars.
is it like lexus is an independent campany and scion is not?
or is it more like cost-cutting thing for scion?

 

Cost-effective reasons only.

People spend the extra cash on a Lexus(for example my boss who just bought the $64,000 SUV), and don't want Toyota emblems on them.

 

I think its more to gain brand identity. How many people have asked you who make it and where to buy a Scion? I always tell them "It's a Scion xB made by Toyota." Just so I end any confusion.

 

Actually, considering how many people thought Scion was a new brand and compared it to a FRIKKIN Kia (still bitter about that one) I am kind of glad they do that. Many non-car junkies don't always get it or care, they have to be told.

 

I would say that was a mistake.... Scion is very careful about the marquee and how it is branded... completely separate from Toyota...
