DO NOT FORGET TO FEED IT CABBAGE !
hamsters get what is called "wet tail", hamster for diarea, and die if not feed with cabbage.
I had one a few years ago, name was Herman the Vermon, was a vicious little bugger. Would hang from the top of his cage and shake it. loved his little plastic ball to roam around the house in. Also had a pair of dragsters to race with my friends.
And you never have 1 hamster, you have one ( they fight to the death) or litters (this needs no explanation if you know the birds and bees)

buddha was my second favorite pet.
very friendly and smart. the ball is an absulute must. he rolled around the house for hours. he also sat quietly in my shirt pocket while i watched tv poking his head out. he lived about five years and got old and grey.
get a big cage with a lot of room to move about. don't use a cedar flooring. use the recycled shredded block of paper (kinda cardboard like). there are several brands. don't let water in the bottle stagnate and use bottled water. change it daily. if you use vitamin drops in the water watch to make sure they drink. buddha would not drink water with the vitamins added (taste). have small wood chew stuff in the cage. fresh veggies as a treat often. carrot sticks, etc.
btw, this thread makes me want to get another baby hamster. if you get them young enough they get used to and appreciative of human contact. buddha was like a freakin' dog. he clicked and talked when you came in the room to let him into his ball. then he would followed me around in the ball to the point of being under foot in the kitchen. i'd inavertently soccer kick him across the floor because i didn't know he was there half the time.

^^^ sweet sotry and love the pic.
i have succesfully made both get along outside of the cage so far.
they fell asleep in my hands and fall asleep under the covers. I uploaded pics and they should be towards the end.
inside the cage i guess its territorial. So its a good thing I have two. Imma give it 1 or 2 more days and see if they can get along. If so I will connect both houses with the tubes and have pleny of running arond space.
man now my sister man went and bought 2 hamsters as well they are chinese dwarfs.. haha..
these criters are hours of fun.

All kinds of cabbage should be avoided, since they may cause flatulence, which is quite dangerous for the hamster's sensitive digestion system.

then every vet I have asked is wrong, every pet store that sells hamsters is wrong, and the breeder I know is wrong.
hehe afraid of a little hamster fart
and everything you see on the world wide web is correct, just like politicians

^^^ haha..sorry .
well i gave them lettuce and apples so far. cha cha is the eater and tatis is the stacker on her cheecks.
tatis doesnt seem to be drinking any water. maybe she is but i never see her up there drinking and the both water bottles are filled and it only goes down a little.
cha cha seems to start responding to her name. she looks out wherever she is when i call her.
the best part is that im still scaring my mom with them. ahhh.. im doing what i didnt get to do as a kid. poor mom she screams and runs. LOL. silly fuji.
