Hey guys i dont know if any of you has had the same problem but sometimes during game plays my ps3 would lag. This isnt online this is during regular game play. I played my homies NBA 08 on it and sometimes it tends to lag and also on MGS 4 too. Does anyone know if this is normal?? I know the ps3 is just like a computer and sometimes when its hot it will lag has anyone else experienced this?? And also has anyone replaced their old hard drive with a bigger one.

That's not lag. Lag is something that can only be experienced in online gameplay. What you're experiencing is basically the framerate dipping really low so it appears choppy. This is either because the developers were a little sloppy with their coding or because the PS3 just doesn't have quite enough power to run all those objects and effects on screen at that graphical quality smoothly. This is most likely normal for those particular games that you are playing. Here is a thread that talks about MGS4 and bad framerates.

actualy i know what you're talking about with NBA08... it happens after the instant replays and boy is it annoying. my guess is that its normal, or that the buffer is just overloaded or something of that sort. as for mgs i barely noticed any lag when i played through it, but it did feel a smidge slower when i bumped up to 1080i from 720p. iono maybe thats just me, but to answer your question, my guess is that its normal for a few games, and more apparent than others

 

Yeah tahts wut i thought its just like a computer from my experience of building a couple of computers myself it always slows down becuase either the vid card was not good or the cpu was too slow and thanks guys for your inputs i really appreciate it and have any of u guys tried switchin out ur 80gb to anything higher??

 

I think its probably just the game itself. I know that NBA 08 and NBA Live 08 both suffer from some framerate problems on the ps3. Thats why i went with 2k8.

 

Yeah im pretty sure its the games too and also you cant expect them all to run smooth. Awhile ago i tried to call sony and speak with someone on the phone but i stopped cuz the waiting list was like 20 mins so i sed screw it hehe. But GT5 ran smooth but i was kinda disappointed bout the game not like the rest but the graphics was gr8.

 

Ps3 games will only become better... i think the reason why some ps3 games aren't as good as their 360 couterpart is because the ps3 is a whole different development code (architecture) than the ps2, while the 360 is the same as the original XBOX...

So its just taking devs a few years to get used to developing for the ps3... for example the first madden game that was made on the next gen, the 360 version had all these features, while the ps3 was watered down and ran only at 30 fps, especially with only having less than a year to work on the next madden...

Thats my take on this whole next gen thing... Luckily i have all three systems lol

 

Oh ic yeah that is true the xbox was so much better than the ps2 in every aspect but i thought the ps3 and the 360 would be at the same level but guess the ps platform still has a long ways to go. Haha lucky i wish i had all 3 systems but then agen you spend more because you got to buy games for all 3 systems.

Umm maybe this is a factor i have a no brand name HDMI cable and i found that at 480i my game ran a lil bit better or do HDMI cables have different specs or are they all the same.

 

$5 HDMI will perform the same, if not better than $75 Monster HDMI cables. The system sucks and tons of games suffer from framerate issues.

Theres only a couple of games on 360 that i like and im pretty sure you can name more that are good but this is just my opinion so dont get all crazy haha . But 360 is no doubt one of the best systems i was thinking bout pickin one up since my brother has his ps3 but im putting that in the back burner for now.

 

I've got all 3, I have 0 games for the PS3.
