I can't watch the video from here because of a corporate firewall, but I'm pretty sure I know what it is from before. I'm not crying. If your dumb enough to street race, you shouldn't have a car or a liscense...period. No acceptions.

They claim these are cars which have been impounded for street racing and then found to have stolen engines. The owners can get the cars back by showing papers to prove the parts are bought and not stolen. No papers = no car back.

This was breaking news in 2004.

Again, I haven't seen the exact video you posted, but the news story I heard about a year ago was similar. I don't remember all tha particulars, but they were crushing the cars of people who were caught street racing. That was the punishment. I think it's great.
It's like this: I'm all for legal gun ownership. But if I would get caught shooting a gun in a reckless way that endangered someone's life, I would think the cops would be justified in taking my gun away.

In the video, the cop claims that most of them had stolen engines and/or parts. The judge didn't want them to pull the engines and then give them a shell of a car just waiting for an engine. He said the owners were given the chance to show up with proper paperwork, etc, but hardly any did.

I understand it has more visual impact, but its lame to crush the wheels and other reusable parts. Our tax dollars at work...

I think it is a fitting punishment for those guys they post this about twice a year on the news sites to scare people away from racing illegally when it is made so easy and available to race legally on a track
