I know that Torrance PD (SoCal) are trained to approach with firearms drawn if they feel any threat, i.e.: tinted windows, multiple passengers, gang members, etc. Better safe than sorry! But they are notorious for being hard core, **** ******. ..I should know, I'm married to a former TPD douche, lol.
I understand probably cause. And I'm for profiling. But from what I could see, the situation for this officer posed no threat. My windows werent tinted, the car wasnt stolen, Im not a gang member nor do I look like one. I even asked the Sarg. if an APB had gone out for a vehicle or suspect that matched my description, all turned up nada...

But I guess not having a front license plate is reason enough to draw down. How much do you think costa mesa pd would be paying if that officer accidentally squeezed off a round and hit someone? While your firearm is your lifesaver, it should be used as the last line of defense. The way I see it, an officer should be READY to un-holster his weapon (have the safety snap undone) and maybe have his hand on the gun, but to actually have it out and ready to fire... come on.
I totally agree with your situation. I was just explaining why an officer might approach a vehicle with weapon drawn, even if it's just a T-stop.

The fist time I went on a ride-a-long as a cadet, I remember seeing the officer approach the vehicle with weapon drawn and at his side. I remember thinking, Whoah! What's going on!...and after asking why, the officer told me it's just officer safety if there are multiple occupants and they had tint, so it was hard to see what was going on inside.
Yea i understand why they're trained that way, I've been on plenty of ride alongs myself. Ive been surrounded by law enforcement all my life.(Both parents are retired LAPD, Grandfather is a retired sheriff, unlce is detective at Anaheim pd) And when I become a cop, I'll use the same tactics, but not when a driver has surrendered the keys to the vehicle, I have plain sight of the occupants, their movements & actions and there is no evidence for me to assume anything is in the wrong.

Not saying that pulling a vehicle over is a walk in the park, it never is. But with this situation, the officer was out of line.

So me and a fellow lifeguard were talking about the things we do to punish kids I told him my favorite and that was to make the kids who run to walk around the pool a couple times.

That being said the other day I was going 45 in a 25 and I see a motorcycle cop on the sidewalk and he gives me those lovely blue lights. I roll up with Black Sabbath –Iron man playing real low. He proceeds to ask me how fast the speed limit was I respond “It’s not 45???(knowing it was 25)” he laughs and says no.

He writes up a ticket form and comes back humming Iron Man I say “you like that song too??” Again he laughs and says yeah it’s good. But anyway to my point he says “for your punishment I want you to drive back from where you came turn around and tell how fast the speed limit is. I knew right then my karma for making all the kids walk around the pool came back to bite me in the butt. I drive by him throw up my hands in the air and say, “you got me!” he just laughs at me. That was the first time I ever got out of a ticket.

Yeah, I used to live in Maple Shade, but live in Marlton now. I've lived here since I was 13.

Texas is 1,000,000 times better.

sometimes it's fun to play.

I was going to the Hollywood video right before 12am and on the way home I took one of the main streets in Sequim (retirement community). It's 25mph down this street! and so I'm doing about 35. I see headlights behind me come out from a side street about 5 blocks away, and I knew it was a cop cuz no one else is out at that time of night. I had passed him while he was sitting down one of the side streets and I knew he was gonna get me. So I floored it, at least the best I could in a 6cyl '65 Mustang, lol. I'm going about 50mph and faster....I just saw the headlights getting bigger and bigger in my rear view, lol. So I brake it down to 25 right as he gets behind me. Then he lights me up and I pull over, and turn the car off.

He gets out of his unit laughing, and comes up to the window and says: "What are you doing?!"

I said laughing: "I'm sorry."

He just shakes his head and asks for my info. He was gone a pretty long time so I knew it was a ticket for me....He comes back and hands me my stuff:

"I never give warnings, especially for speeding but this time I'll let it go." "Hey do you work at Jack-in-the-Box? I like that sweatshirt!" He says.

"No, I just found it at the thrift shop and thought it was cute." I reply.

"Oh...well please slow it down."

"ok, sorry!" I replied

Then he folds his arms and steps back and checks out my car. "Man! That's a nice car! Well, have a good night!" and gets back in his car.

i was like, Whah???

Not my car. No clue where registration slip was. Going 11mph above limit. Had a beer. Was 20yrs old.

Was coming back from a party and the last topic of discussion were cops. Back then I had a crush on a cop in Italy so needless to say I was the only one out of a bunch of 8 people that defended cops.

Cop pulls me over "licence n registration"
me "Uhm i dunno where the registration is but here's the licence it's my sister's car"
him " says yr 20"
"uh-huh and?"
Then he gets real close to my mouth, half an inch, and sniffs "spit out yr gum did u drink?"
me "no"
Him "don't lie lady"
me "ok yes"
Him "all right step out of the car please and come over to the curb"
- I obey - he gives me the test OBVIOUSLY I passed (in Europe you can drink starting at 15/16) I get back in the car and he starts writing something on his ticket pad then stops and says:
"can I ask you a question?"
"sure"
"why do you have baby wipes on yr laps?"
"because I'm about to pull home and I don't want to stink of smoke, hence the chewing gum also, it bothers my mom"

He gives a smile puts his book back in his back pocket and says "so you leave near huh?", "yup around the next intersection", "all right I'll escort you" and then under my breath I said "I freakkin love cops!"

Once I got home and he left I called the guys at that party they felt frustrated to say the least lol

Heh I have a few...

Last year I was working for our local county 911 center. (I'll need to explain how it's set up so this makes more sense)

That night I was on the "Overflow" position... meaning if all of the 3 City Pod dispatchers were on the phone, I'd get their calls. If any one of the 3 County Pod dispatchers were on the phone, I'd get their calls. (The "County Pod" was set up in 3 sections covering different parts of the county). If both of the 2 EMS dispatchers or the 2 Fire Dispatchers were on the phone, I'd get their calls.

So the girl on County Pod 2 was on the phone, and I get this call...

In the background I hear a man yelling, screaming, etc. I thought to myself "great... another active domestic" and start writing the call screen information on my card (we didn't have a CAD system then... Computer Aided Dispatching, we were writing the calls by hand)

After about what seemed to be 5 minutes of me saying "Dispatcher 43... York County 911 this is dispatcher 43.... hello? Do you have an emergency" stuff like that... I hear this guy yell "HEY.... HEY A$$HOLE!! GIVE ME YOUR EFFING BADGE NUMBER!!!!"

After I heard that I'm like "oh.. my... god... this is going to be a "fun" call"

So this guy gets on the phone finally and says "Hey... all I'm tryin to do is cook on my fire... this officer is telling me my fire is illegal... is my fire illegal?"

I reply to him "Sir, if the police officer is telling you your fire illegal, then your fire is illegal"

He keeps calling me a liar, asking for my name (we're not allowed to give our actual names, only dispatcher number unless something occurs like a hostage situation, in which if we must to gain the suspects trust we may give our name) (we're also not allowed to hang up on anyone) This goes on, him calling me a liar, asking for my name, callilng me names, him yelling at the police officers, telling me the officers were beating him up and such (when he had locked himself in teh house and the cops were outside) for about 15 minutes before he asks me one more time what my name is, I give him my dispatcher number yet again, and he says that he's going to hang up and call back because last time he called there was no dispatcher 43 (as if I'd magically either appeared or magically intercepted a 911 call) I logged out of my phone to inform the supervisor of this guy and the potential problem we may have on our hands.

He keeps calling in at LEAST 6 more times after me harassing my co-workers, and even telling one he wanted a "real cop". By "real cop" he meant a State Trooper. In PA we don't have County/City/State police... We have state and municipal police officers. He apparently didn't realize his area was not covered by the State Police (although they can respond if requested by a municipal PD). We called the state police and informed them of the situation, to which they replied "Next time he calls in send him over to us"

And we did. There was 3 municipal police officers outside this guy's house. State calls us and tells us they're sending up 2 of their officers to assist in the situation. The municipal officers "hid" their cars and themselves... State police arrive and knock on this guy's door. He doesn't answer.

All 5 officers waited outside for a while hiding in bushes until the guy opened his garage door and went to leave, which is where they drew their weapons and then arrested him. He was arrested for misuse of the 911 system, false claims, and many other things.... all over a fire pit that was illegal.
