Regarding "56k no."

Regarding "56k no."
I know that when people post topics with alot of pictures or large sized pictures, they'll add in the topic title "56k no." or " 56k forget about it.."
Who the hell uses a 56k modem anymore.....??!!
Or, am I in a sheltered, hi-speed internet world?
If you use 56k, speak!

There is No actual 56k Rule.
I query the Staff about this more than a year ago.
It's more a Common Courtesy.
Who knows? There could be a few out there that
are so Remote that a 56k line is all they have.

i was living in Pasadena CA not long ago, had moved in to a garage/apt just for couple months and they didnt have any cable hookup and dsl required a contract so my only option was dialup, browsing the forums was slooow and used to not click on those kind of threads at all, since i moved i've been on cable so i kinda understand those thread titles...

I was thinking there could be areas of the country that are so remote, they barely have phone service.
Let alone DSL, Cable, Satellite, High Speed Internet, not enough subscribers to justify the cost of the service...
That is possible. Then it could a family finance situation. The parents are not net-savvy or computer literate
and are not about to pop for their teen's surfin habit.
Or some kind of 'starving student' situation. Paying monthly HS Internet fees not in their cards.
If you're cheap, you are cheap.

Yeah I actually had 56k like a year ago......sadly. I think it's just a courtesy thing- Cause I remember when I would look at this site with the dial up...I would avoid the "56k no" titles or I could go watch an episode of Family Guy and come back and the page would barely be loaded lol

mobile phone web browsers!
A lot of people use their mobile phones to browse websites and discussion forums... etc. I would imagine these people especially find the 56k note useful... bc god knows large posts kill most mobile phones.
I catch myself on this site sometimes using my iPhone... not on WiFi all the time.

I'll admit to having dial-up. I live in an area where there is no service for cable or dsl. Satellite is over priced for the speed you get. There is a company that broadcasts a WI-FI signal for a few counties. Price is a little less than satellite, but I'm right on the edge of there service. Not sure how well it will work, but I need to schedule a site evaluation. My PS3 just sits cause I can't play online. Everything on youtube will be new to me. I have yet to post a photo shoot thread.

I havnt used dialup in almost 6 years now, but I still know a few people that use dial up (mainly netzero)
I will never go back to dial up, after expierencing the high speed of Cable I wouldnt know what to do with myself if I had to go back to 56k

5 years ago I had DSL for a year then moved out into the country where I was introduced to 28.7k. It was so slow that whenever I used 56k(friends house) I would get excited at how fast it was going.
