Yeah I was going to tell Sci that I saw that on last night. This thread made me want to watch it. Some of it was funny. They touched on the marriage thing and brought up the "no divorce" topic that Sci touched on. I thought that was interesting. I liked the one that came on afterwards. Great things about being blonde.

I did not watch. I guess.. I like to write here more than watch a mixed-bag of a show on TV.

It makes me feel useful, to communicate and exchange with fine people like you, young sir.

Just to add my 2 cents here. Relationships are what you make of them. I think that anyone who wants a long term relationship can have it. It takes work and the willingness to want that. Of course you have to be happy with your mate.

Yes some ___ couples don't last but some straight couples don't last as well. Again I don't feel there is that much difference between ___ and straight. 50% of married straight couples get divorced so that is not much of a target. And they have "Marriage" that is suppose to keep them together. Most ___ people don't have that official certificate.

Here in Michigan you hear of raids in the rest areas on the freeways. 90% of the people busted are married. I don't think you can have a good relationship and go out and have sex with someone else. That is my thoughts anyway. I know many ___ couples that have been together for a long time and I see more happiness than a lot of straight couples.

So yes I think the stereotype of ___ people only haveing short tem relationship is not correct. As society accepts ___ people and allows them to live in relationships without fear, you will see more ___ couples committed to each other and their community.

Another way to look at it. Everyone knows how much of a battle it has been on ___ marriage. It was all over the last election. A lot of ___ people spent countless hours fighting to make legal ___ marriage to happen. It was a major loss but the ___ community is still fighting hard for this. If ___ people just lived in short term relationships then why would so many work so hard to try to make this legal? Most want a long term relationship both ___ and straight. There are many ___ couples that have families (kids) just like straight families.

The reason why alot of gays are fighting for marriage is for the benifits not really for the recognition or official certificate. Marriage offers more state/national benifits then a civil union does.

For instance if one person goes to the hospital and does not want to be put on life support the other person has no say even if they have been together for a long time it doesnt matter because they are not married.

living will, power of attorney, etc. take care of that.

However, I have no legal right to inherit tax-exempt my mate's estate, nor he, mine.

A "union" of same practical import as "marriage" helps ___ couples stay together. Provides for overlapping heath care coverage. Insures that -the damn family does not vulture in to take over and KICK OUT the bereaved partner, if, as is usually the case, no legal will had been made.

Scott Wood make excellent points.

My mate is older than myself. I'm his number seven. He's my first mate. 23 years. I guess time mellows us down?

lasting relationships can only be aided by legal protection, such as "marriage" or civil union.

We can't have this in most states. Florida is regressive.

I can tell a story...
