Scions and Gays

speaking of poetry. homosexuality was and is OK in some other cultures.
that did not make the Greeks die out though. In fact, the most stable of ancient
Greek city-states was Sparta. it was a strange political system; we could dub it fascist today. but it was more complex than that.
all males who survived infancy were conscripted into military training begining at age seven. all male Spartans were professional soldiers until age sixty.
The men were kept away from home and wives. We presume they had other outlets.
--A greek-american member of this board, who is -not- ___, helped me out with some poetry questions. He's half my age.
This poem was made by his inspiration. Steve quoted a pair of lines from Keats' poem,
"Ode for a Grecian Urn" to me. I had not read that before. He quoted the finishing lines of Keats:
'Beauty is truth, truth beauty,—that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.'
In those old days they did not have soap. Olive oil and a scraper and elaborate heated baths were the way to be clean. People who could, bathed daily. It was a social activity throughout much of the ancient world. The hair is descriptive of the man, living today, who got me thinking about long ago life....

Yearn for a Grecian Ode
A pause to clear the mind of a man
reliving a prior scene.
Two youths at a place for Spartan others.
Long ringlets of jet hair cascading.
I place the blade to his throat.
Apart in this setting, in honor befitting;
a dull knife scraping by ancient custom
in this Grecian bath.
An exhale is the assent.
Descend the tool, commence
ablation; metallic edge oblique in its pressings
of olive, oiled, that skin.
Aft of the movement
flushed in color
edgings excite the blood
like expungement of grimes
is unearthing exposure
of other, consequent thoughts.
Time in quiet. The blading primary
to hand, as in following form.
Partials of him on the copper, ablated.
Perfume, excited, of him in the nostrils
flaring. Pause to refocus.
To cleanse requires to refrain.
Long ringlets of jet cascade around
the copper burnishing gold as
the wished for return to that fellow
not lost nor taken by time
nor to arms.
Recalling by ode in truth of a time
when two men might bathe
and in touch was this speech.
(*olive oil was staple.
Food, illuminant and soil emulsifier
in a civilization without soap.)
(**The strigle, of copper or bronze;
evidently hygenic, universally popular.
Every Greek bathed in socialization.)
here, this poem is up for nomination to go to an awards jury.

^^ That is the kind of thing I am talking about. When you post stuff that makes absolutely no sense overall and is not even fitting with the topic... people are gonna bash you... Sorry if it sounds rude.. but its true
And dont get me wrong.. I have been writing since I was a kid.. I have no issue with that. But when it gets shoved in everywhere a conversation is being held people are bound to say nasty things about you.

Sorry if it seemed that way, but I really wasnt trying to bicker.. only make a point about the harrassment he mentioned. I dont want to see the discrimination card get started here, which is what prompted my response. I think ScionLife is a pretty open and accepting forum when it comes to diversity.

engifineer: I agree, and I don't think you were going out of your way to jump down anyone's throat. You could have chosen to make your point in a much more condescending manner; it's good that you didn't.
Having seen so many other threads like this spiral downward for one reason or another, I just want to make sure this one stays a sane and entertaining place for everyone.
Kenshi: NO! Hot pink is so last season. Neon blue is where it's at.

from where did you get that quote of mine. I did say that, yes,
but I don't think it -was in this thread-. Or was it?
IF not why bring that up from out of the blue? (don't answer)
I haven't even been here for a few days so do not put a focal on an individual by dredging up some outdated quote. dead horse.
dang.

I understand where engifiner is coming from but I don't feel it was right to start something in this thread because I don't believe that quote was from here just duke it out in PM.
