i can't keep up with who we're mad at and who we're not.

but, in all honesty, (*cough*oil*cough*) Nixon normalized relations with China and it turned out to be a good thing. So maybe Gadhafi has really turned over a new leaf and isn't out to hurt us anymore (*cough*oil*cough*). I'll just take a "wait and see" attitude (*cough*oil*cough*).

and the south fought the north by that logic, yet we all go to disneyworld. not a real argument imo. anyone who was around in the 80s when reagan sent some missles might think our stance on Libya is a bit odd given our stance on Iraq.

We will befriend any country/regime/dictator that suits our short-term needs; oil, cash, and/or control, regardless of the long-term consequences brought on by opposing ideologies. The idea being that if we lose any of our interests, we'll befriend our new friend's enemies to start the process all over again. For examples, just look at Central/South America, or we can look at the Bin Laden case.

Countries don't have friends. They have arrangements.
